Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

Personally I believe it goes way further than that.

I don’t think there is much question that it was worse than Vietnam. Vietnam was traumatic, but geopolitics weren’t much different before and after. Just one lost proxy battle in the great Cold War, which in the end the US won. Taken as a whole, 24 years on it seems pretty clear that al-Qaeda won the great fight against American supremacy that they started in 9/11. It cost al-Qaeda their organizational existence, but in terms of what they were trying to achieve, they accomplished that and far more.

This hurts so much because the objective of terrorism, by definition, is to cause terror. Provoking revenge is exactly what they would have wanted, so they won the moment the American people at large decided they wanted revenge instead of forgiveness.

Mourn the victims, rebuild, and systematically destroy the organisation from the inside out while starving them of media oxygen. That’s how to win, how to beat them.

Gees, the realisation that Trump is pretty much exactly what al-Qaeda would have wanted is a bit nuts

I’m probably alone in this, but I firmly believe that Afghanistan was the one US intervention that was justified. Even without taking 9/11 into consideration, the Taliban were a barbaric, evil regime that had to be wiped out. Unfortunately, the hawks at the White House saw an opportunity to exploit 9/11 in order to get ahold of Iraq’s oil reserves, which produced catastrophic results both for the Iraqi and the Afghani people and the world in general.

I don’t know if Afghanistan was ever winnable, but fighting a second totally unnecessary war made sure that there was going to be only one result.

This is depressing. Although Newsweek sees fit to use the word ‘plunge’ to describe a two percent drop, the fact that Trump’s approval rating is so high, despite the shitshow of his term so far, is a cause for deep concern.

Putting aside the fact that 47% is an absurdly high number considering what he’s done so far, he is more popular now than what he was at this point of his first term.

There isn’t much point in hoping that there’s going to be a substantial turn of the American public opinion against him anytime soon.

This gives me hope, seeing anti-Trumptwit protestors in Detroit waving to their Canadian neighbours across the river.

Of course not. Social equity, respect for minorities, a strong state, and above all, existential security for every Danish citizen. No Dane will ever find himself in the streets without help. Compare this to the abject country the US have become.

No wonder this triple idiot doesn’t consider the Nordic states as ‘good allies’.

-food borne illness
-plane crashes
-shootings
-race and gender based violence
-ICE detention centers
-and more!

WTF is a “non-conforming” gender haircut? Is the legislature going to provide pics of the REQUIRED styles? no more short hair cuts for girls allowed etc

This is North Korea style.
