Iāve always disliked Rubio, but on a lot of things I just thought he was wrong but trying to do what he genuinely thought was right. This is an intractable difference of opinion I have with several of my friends whose family came from Cuba where I think they just misunderstand American politics and so are applying their lessons from their Cuban experience incorrectly. But here is is acting in a way that the Rubio of even 2 years ago would viscously attack.
HE WOULD PROBABLY argue that in 2022 he was talking about American students whereas now he is taking about student VISITORS who America allow come to study, not to agitate or are they also silencing American born and bred students.

That is seemingly his argument, but it still falls flat on a number of levels.
You donāt get to hold up the value of free speech we have here but then limit who it applies to. He has notably made a point in the past of praising that people come here to enjoy the freedoms the US constitution grants them. This new perspective not only pisses on the value he claims to revere, but is clearly inconsistent with the constitution - constitutional rights apply to all on US soil. It is best thought of as a restriction on the US government not as protections to individuals.
But even if you reject all of that, without due process who is technically american and who isnt is largely irrelevant.
