Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

A cracking article:

The last paragraph does raise the most important question, though: why aren’t the Democrats doing more?

Apparently he was criticising the Biden administration for its role in suppressing the Laptop story.

How was this leaked? Did they forget to remove Goldberg from the WhatsApp group?

Yes, I read that too, whatever his intention was, you simply don’t quote Goebbels, no matter the context. He certainly won’t think Goebbels was a philosopher.

There’s no point debating these people anymore, they’ve shown time and time again what they are.

I reckon that lady has just gone up some deportation list.

Yes, it is true.

It was an agreement made in Budapest, called the Budapest Memorandum.

Of course, Ukraine was part of the USSR, and the motherland held the launch codes, so there would have been some tooling up for Ukraine - disassemble weapons, remake them according to your own requirement. Bear in mind that once you know the technology, the hardest part is getting the raw materials together for a weapon. At the time, with the weapons it held, Ukraine would have been the third largest nuclear power in the world.

They freely gave up those weapons as they wanted to establish their own independent nation status and decouple from the USSR.

The international community guaranteed their safety. Clinton and Yeltsin signed the memorandum on behalf of America and Russia.

Hmmm… about that. Trump and Putin have both reneged. Putin is not a surprise, but for Trump, and America, to switch sides is disastrous.

Unless this is a Trump ‘blip’ and sanity will prevail once this chapter is over, the world is going to be a very different place moving forward.

I’ve said many times Europe needs to form an army, hi tech, best gear, European manufactured to be properly independent, and nuclear armed to at least ensure MAD, in order to stand up to Putin’s likely desire to keep expanding westward.

Edit:
And whisper it quietly, to stand up to America, if it continues on the current path. Just witness the way JD Vance talks about Europe. If he is the next President, the case for an independent European deterrence grows stronger. Given the time needed to get it together, Europe needs to begin in earnest, ASAP.

Tariffs for everyone and everything. Except for pet food and Russia/Belarus.

(The thing about pet food is a German saying from a commercial.)

This guy thinks the take home here is that Trump’s immigration actions are unpopular.

https://x.com/AaronBlake/status/1907467449899024598

But that isnt the story. Look at the framing…people who have committed no crimes and havent had due process to determine if they are eligible for removal…and 4 in 10 people still agree with the current approach. That is why Dems are so meek on the immigration discussion because for a significant number of people, a near majority, there is nothing you can say about the reality of the situation and they not hear “they were here illegally and are criminals”. You can even present evidence to the contrary on both accounts and it does not compute.

Penguin eggs will become luxury items.

This will be a shitshow. The world will need to be resolute, but unfortunately I think everyone will lose until, and if, common sense eventually prevails.

Free and fair trade leads to prosperity.

Tariffs lead to trade wars, and potentially further war beyond.

This is the economic equivalent of the Signal chat group fiasco in terms of rank incompetence

edit: I am in stitches. It was just pointed out to me that Israel is now subject to a 17% tariff, due to the same made-up math applied everywhere else. Israel applies a 0% tariff to US goods. Iran now has a lower tariff rate for US imports.
