I said from the start recession. The way they are going about it it’s ultimate class war. They, the rich, will have absolutely everything after.
It’s not just the economics they are using, they are empowering and controlling militia’s at the moment there’s ICE, public denouncing immigrants etc this will be ramped up. Get rid of the ‘decent’ generals and police chiefs add to that I’m sure the MAGA crowd out gun the reasonable people 5 to one, perhaps even more.
Tariffs are about diverting money to the rich, recession the same with the added bonus of allowing to buy up everything cheap.
There’s a plan behind all this they aren’t as stupid as they sound.

I think they are even more stupid. They (and/or) their heirs will end up headless.
What is truly crazy about this is that the US is already very much a society run for the rich by the rich. The sort of dislocation this crisis is causing is not that far from the forces that allowed the New Deal in the 1930s.

I don’t even get what the endgame is regarding the anti-vaccine thing. 20 years ago, it was regarded as the no.1 threat.
Are they looking to cull their own population at some point? Are they just doing Putin’s bidding?

I think this is one area where the position is largely authentic. Their epistemology is moronic, based more on opposing things people they dislike believe in, but the people driving this appear to largely believe the things they believe
I read a book about 20 years about the forces that led to the fall of the Ottoman Empire. The general thesis was the Islamic world went from leaders in science to skeptics largely in response to the enlightenment in Europe and their attitude that if Christians believed a thing then it had to be wrong leading them to reflexively take the opposite position. The result was an Ottoman society who increasingly turned away from science, except when it came to buying the military tech Europe was producing. That feels like what we’ve seen over the past 20 years on the American right…increasingly taking absurd positions simply because the establishment believes the opposite and then making up explanations for that oppositional defiance after the fact, often with contradictory explanations (see tarrifs being both a force to bring back manufacturing AND being a source of revenue that can reshape our economy and tax base)

Aye. America is unhealthy and so we’re going to massively upgrade our food regulations and their enforcement to make America healthier…at the same time I axe 10s of 1000s staff across the relevant agencies with no plans to replace them simply because I reject the authority of regulatory agencies
