If the US defaults on debt, the dollar will not be the world’s reserve currency any more.
It’s “toe the line” you cockwomble!
What’s a realistic alternative?
Not sure the current situation can be compared with 1979. The international situation was very different then, the intents were different, and the tools used were also different. Driving up interest rates isn’t the same than starting a global trading war.
As @koptician’s earlier post showed ( Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2) - #7495 by koptician ), Trumps methods are far more akin to what Hoover did in the early thirties, which sparked the Great Depression, lasting throughout the decade until WW2.
The Euro would be the obvious one. I believe that Iran even used it for oil pricing at one point.
Think its more likely to be the yuan.
Reminds me more of the Cultural Revolution because of the obsession with the head of state and rewriting of history. At least Hoover was only inept.
The Moronic Revolution
Bessant was talking yesterday about how the now unemployed government workers can go and staff the new factories that will be driving the US’ manufacturing boom
Ignoring the absurdity of putting an infectious disease expert into a new factory, one that wont be open for the best part of a decade, this is textbook Maoism
They are never in a million light years going to be able to organise anything 1/1000000 as aesthetic and/or impressive.
I remember when Trump was in Paris (previous term), There was a lot of talk of the Caudillo being unfathomably impressed with the Bastille Day parade and he wanted to create the same tradtion in the US.
That is a fake. It’s from his previous term, when he did say something outrageously stupid, but she is indeed a translator.

The Cultural Revolution came with several dozens of millions violent deaths, so let’s hope that it won’t come to that. But indeed, Trump invoking imaginary new ‘dangers’ facing the nation, justifying in that way his demential actions, is somewhat similar to what happened under Mao.
When an ideology starts taking more place than actual facts, it never ends well.
This is very funny to me at least.

These people think they can sell beef to Australia. I don’t know what is going on in their heads really. Demanding that Australia and Argentina buys US beef is prepostriously stupid.

I have to hope that he’d get shot in the back by Secret Service before it got that bad.

US … stupid.
Sums up this entire thread.
Interested to know whether people think the US could win a tariff war with China?
I cant see it myself.
