Voters left the Dems very little power to do anything through official Washington channels. All any Dem can really do is fight in the court of public opinion by making a stink about what is happening. Bernie and AoC are not just doing that on a broad scale, they are taking the arguments to Trump country.
I am under no illusions that this will be enough to stop trump, but the time to give politicians the power to do that directly was November.
Yeah, I feel thatâs the turning point, and where weâll see if there is any kind of democracy left in that country. If this goes through unpunished yet again, then everyone will know exactly that a band of murderers are at the helm, and that nobody can stop them anymore.
Edit: same feelings about Sandersâ and AOCâs current rallies than @koptician and @Limiescouse. While they are commandable in itself, they should have taken place before the elections in order to have an effect. Now, itâs too little, too late. A bit the same than the numerous rallies taking place in Israel against Netanyahouâs gang, and having fuck all effect, because those fuckers got regularly elected in the first place.
They were. Come on. Lets stop acting like this message about exactly what Trump was and what he would do was not being made for months, and being made by these people now going around the country on âa told you soâ tour. Voters didnt buy it and instead chose put the fascists in sole control of all the official levers of power despite knowing there was a court who would bend over backwards to pretend there were legal justifications for what they were inevitably going to do.
At least theyâre tying to do something. Of course youâd think there should be millions marching on Washington, but at least theyâre trying to ignite some sparks.
@Limiescouse, obviously they were doing all they could, but people didnât listen. Why? Even now, all of this is paltry when compared to the size of the country. I actually agree with you: a majority of people chose to vote the fascists into power, and they obviously donât regret it one bit. Fuck them.
@Cologne-Liverpool , yeah completely agree. I wrote a lot of times that I admire Sanders. In a parallel world, he was allowed by the democrats to candide for the presidency in 2016. Who knows what would have happened then. But letâs face it: they are fighting an uphill battle against a population which has chosen authoritarianism as its new political identity. Fuck them.
Exactly, and these events bring like minded people together which stops them from feeling isolated and hopeless. That in itself is positive and for younger people it can be inspiring to see great orators expressing ideas that arenât very common in mainstream media. The effect of that may only be felt years from now.
Yes. And the people opposing this madness, of which Iâm sure there still are many, need to get out of this passive mode. Their institutions, Dem establishment, law suits, MSNBC etc wonât save them.
The only thing preventing Bernie winning in 2016 was lack of votes. Yes the party big wigs were open in their support of Hilliary even before the process started, but that doesnt matter if people dont vote for her. The way it didnt stop Obama beating her under the exact same conditions in 2008. If anything that situation elevated Bernie because it kept other credible contenders out of the race leaving him as the only other voice (if you ignore Lincoln Chaffee, which is always the appropriate response to Lincoln Chaffee)
There continues to be magical thinking around Bernie that disregards the importance of people actually casting a vote for him, and this whole âwhat are dems doing?â thing is exactly the same. In the absence of being given actual power by the voters all a politician can do is rabble rouse and that is what they are doing.
Iâd like to see electeds in Washington do more. The Continuing Resolution vote was a fucking disaster of process, tactics and messaging. There continues to be sell outs who vote with Trump on the idea that creating separation from the Dem party is good for their personal brand in a way that dilutes criticism of Trump (See Marie Gluesenkamp Perez for a particularly annoying example)
But you have people like Schatz doing what is in his power to make a show of blocking nominations until certain demands are met, but there are two problems with that. 1) Trump is doing so much that itâs easy to be played if you make a point of holding out until a certain demand is met (Schatz was restoration of USAID). Where do you go if Trump decides to give you a win on your specific demand? Immediately pivot and demand something new? Of course rationally there is justification for that, but we know pretty clearly that sort of approach quickly starts appearing to the average person as just theatre, and the message taken is âDems are just making up stuff about Trump to play politicsâ. But 2) How many people here have even heard about what Schatz is doing? If every Dem in an important committee did the same, what impact would it have on public consciousness of Trumpâs wrong doing?
To elaborate on the above, What Bernie and AoC are doing is orders of magnitude more powerful in raising dissent to what is happening, but it shouldnt an either or situation. All possible avenues need to be taken simultaneously. We have seen though how ill equipped all but a tiny number of elected Dems are at speaking directly to the people. Hakeem Jefferies doing another Tik Tok does nothing. So the suit and tie Dems should stay in Washington and do what they can to gum up the works, while people who are good at it, like Bernie and AoC, are right to hit the road and raise hell
I have been doing some very serious research into the weight problem posed by Trumpâs medical.
It all comes down to âsinkersâ and âfloatersâ.
Sinkers are healthy shits that sink. My feces can be like bullets and not just sink they âflushâ themselves.
Floaters indicate health problems like not digesting fat correctly, constipation leading to lots of flatulence and gaz. These faces float very high in the water.
My conclusion is is Trump is a very unhealthy being full of floaters, Gaz and immeasurable flatulence. He definitely has irritable verbal diarrhoea (as far as feces are concerned 'irritable bowel syndrome).
HTH
This is why I am concerned the Abrego case is a trap and we need to be careful to not make everything about him and the wrongs of that specific case. Trump finally acquiescing to the courtâs ruling wont all of a sudden mean this entire program is ok.
