Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

In the US military you generally need 20 years of service to qualify for a pension so this is more of a case of forcing people out before they’ve qualified. The pension is a big reason why lots of people sign up and people who have done a decade or more reasonably view the pension as theirs even if they havent yet qualified. So to remove long standing service people in good standing like this is a huge violation of the agreement the country makes with its service people, but the boot lickers will argue that there is no pension for these people to take away. It’s bullshit, but it’s important to be clear about the distinction, because these people love trying to catch someone out with these sorts of minor corrections and then writing off the entire objection as just TDS.

Jesus christ. If the father voluntarily left his children like that he’d be arrested for child endangerment.

China’s official posture towards Trump’s tariffs ; :backhand_index_pointing_up:

I think the Covid experience told us that we should expect companies to use tarrifs to raise prices even on products not affected by it, but here we the Clevelend Fed saying they now have reports of it

Companies who are unaffected are using consumer expectations of price increases to give them cover to increase their prices. Companies are also defensively raising prices now in preparation for later problematic tariffs with the expectation that consumers will respond better to frequent small increases over time than waiting for the tariffs to kick in on them and being forced to add a big one time increase in price.

Basically, even without actual tariffs being in place, Trump’s fuckery has created a situation where everyone is raising the prices anyway.

This is incredible. Just bare faced lies from the American SS to excuse their fascist actions

I did not know about the 20 year requirement. But still…

Well, you write well about the actual issues about it.

This isn’t true, albeit Trump obviously exaggerates like a mad man, like usual. There was US mediation and Marco Rubio was absolutely involved and an important piece, but not alone (other countries also were involved).
The nuance to the truth is that both sides were desperate for mediation and could not deescalate easily themselves due to Face, they only needed a mediator.
That Turnbull guy isn’t the best source and he is just parroting what a few others wrote previously, (including Reuters, so hardly his fault) because they trust the word of Indian and Pakistani officials (one should really not). There is much misinformation and the recent Indian-Pakistani skirmish has been significantly terrible in terms of disinformation; and certainly the worst I have seen since 2022 and Ukrainain bio labs and nazi take over ladi da.

It IS true that the Cease Fire was worked out by the so called Military Director Generals of the conflict (funny words for 2 people who play with human chess pieces), but US and others did indeed help faciliate it, after Pakistan started to rattle those atomic bombs of theirs (which was the day after J.D. Vance blathered on twitter that the US ought to stay the fuck away from it).

The Tzar is about to hold a press conferance (he is late like always, of course) in response to the 30 Day proposal by the West, and RU media has been hyping it as ultra huge. Lots of western reporters sitting and waiting, for the Tzar and the preconditions he is no doubt going to come forth with).

The BIG question is Washington’s response after the Tzar has torpedoed the Ceasefire, but with spin that will make is seem (to idiots) that the Empire is open to exactly such a Ceasefire.
Uncle Caligula in Washington has promised Macron, Starmer, Merz, Tusk and Zelinsky; a massive response to Russian intransigence; but count me skeptical of this.
He is likely going to disappoint us again and jump on whatever fairytale the Tzar comes forth with (i.e. impossible preconditions to the unconditional 30 Day ceasefire).

Is that the same meeting that the Chinese walked out of midway through?

Very worried now after Putin’s proposal. I fear it is monumental and by far the most important story today. I predict that Trump will grab it with both hands and seek to force Ukraine to attend stalling negotiations going no where in Istanbul. It would also placate Erdogan’s ego.

This is terrible. Normally, I would say that no western leader would walk into such a trap, but Trump wants to do it and it gives him an excuse to not place sanctions on Ru.
This was a terrible day, I fear. Truly a terrible day. Well orchestrated by the devil in Kreml and I fear it will work. There is even the chance that the likes of Starmer will now lean heavily on Zelensky to accept the Ru proposal after Trump has thrown a tantrum (likely, since he will, I fear, love the Ru proposal).

A bleak day.

This latest one is in Geneva. The Chinese side, while expressing caution, did think that negotiations and not confrontation is at least the way forward and the responsible thing to do for a global power.

If this doesn’t cause waves then the American people are done

You have to remember with China that the key phrase is ‘for now’. Winnie the Pooh has even grander empire plans than his mate Putin and the CCP just want to delay because they feel time is on their side
