Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

Inside the terminal at the King Khalid Airport - so they dodn’t allow him to enter the country proper?

I very much remember how incandescently angry Republicans were at “abandoning our Afghan allies” in the “incompetent withdrawal”.

GOP leader of the House Foreign Affairs Committee

During the withdrawal they still got out a number reported to be 10s of 1000s of allied Afghans. Probably about the same number were left behind and that is tragic. But now here Trump is under no pressure at all, and is revoking that status for a number that is probably around 15-20 thousand of them.

What do the American public think of those people without ties, black halos on their heads keeping thier scarfs in place?

Fixed

The last 2 years or so (maybe more, I dont know) has seen a big uptick in a sort of “if you’re going to call me a racist then yeah I’ll own it…white people are simply better than black people…now cancel me” sort of attitudes. Especially among younger people, many of whom have been convinced by the internet that the 90s and 00s was a time when racism had been solved and Obama ruined it by having to talk about race so often…because Michael Jordan sold a lot of shoes and Fresh Prince had a tv show, or some absurdly naive interpretation of those times.

Rodney King looking at that discourse

In the recent Sam Seder edition of that stupid online show where 1 person debates 100 different people, the only thing he didn’t have a response to was a young woman who openly acknowledged she was a white nationalist and refused to accept that was something she should apologize for. It was the one Sam said “ok, there is no debating that sort of position” and just moved on.

Yes, the sentiment has always been there, especially in the South (the sentiment also exists in Norway, to a far smaller degree, but it’s not as if we don’t have a few biological racists).

But it is to me at least very different when the state itself, advertises biological racism.

Fair. I think this is a reflection of what some have been warning about for a while - this is now the 4Chan generation of political operatives and officials on the right.

This why we are seeing so much government by meme, and why so many within MAGA have the same sort of “its a joke, but it’s serious, but dont get mad its just a joke, but do get mad because that is the point of the joke, but I am serious” sort of attitude to policy and official comms as a 14 year old 4Channer has to their dead baby jokes.

He so wants to. Poor man must wear a suit and I feel for him, trapped in a modern liberal democracy with bad fashion (personally not a fan of suit, but that is very besides the point).

Idea for new policy push by Trump. Allow presidents to wear what they want, so that they can make as many salutes as they want:

The President of the US saluting a foriegn general on Saudi soil…I’m sure the MAGA will find a way to explain how their previous rage at Presidents incorrectly saluting people in ways that was disrespectful - to the troops, the country, the eagle, the NY Football Giants, freedom, Bud Light, Nacho cheese - is actually fine now

Yeah, it is only “yesterday” that those were the stories in the Conservative (no longer conservative) media sphere.

No. It is not very significant news
(exactly how they cozy up to him). But they understand him very, very well.
I mean, I haven’t even watched more than 4 sec of it myself for a reason. I clicked on it, thought “aha”, then moved on, but decided to post it here so others could get the same aha if they wanted to.

Short version, scene, music, food; all specifically designed for Trump’s ego.
They even rolled in a mobile McDonalds on wheels.

During the campaign Aaron was very clear, using receipts, that if we go by Trump’s first, a second term Trump immigration enforcement approach would come at the expense of pursuing actual criminals

An article, for those with who have too big personal issues with Twitter to open tweets.

It’s bad actors all around, but it is still fantastic for the wider world, the outcome regarding Syria.
I cannot commend it enough. Obviously, the setting, the corruption, everything else around it; revolting ! But on a Macro Scale, doesn’t matter; as it’s peanuts compared to everything else around Trump.

Hopefully not the last time i applaud Trump and the US (but I fear it will be), but if he follows through and lifts sanctions on Syria as promised, this will aid millions in dire poverty.

Let it not be said that I cannot applaud the devil if he does something good (obviously, the real credit goes to Erdogan and Bone Saw, who were clever and bought off the corrupt US president with word and deeds, but that’s details).
Still good, even though everything around it is bat shit and just beyond awful.
What truly matters for the people in Syria, is the outcome and not the corrupt journey.
