It’s easy to google why Obama was in Oslo, and he was only invited to a lunch because he was there anyway. One thing that is remarkable in this is the claim of the Qatari investment as a justification for these closening ties. It is an absurd number that just is not happening. Yet he has now done this with Saudi, Abu Duabi and now the Qataris, who one after the other have raised the stakes on each other. These states have realized they can just throw a tempting number into the air and Trump will buy it, run with it, and shape his foreign policy around repaying a partner who has no intention at all of living up to their promise of investing in the US an amount that is no more real than if they promised a plaitipillion dollars. And he will not only not be held to account for it, but it will never be mentioned as a failure.
