Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

A Clinton related death…of a guy who was Trump’s mate, whose initial sweetheart plea deal was given by a prosecutor Trump rewarded, and who died on the watch of Trump’s DoJ.

MAGA people really have a big problem understanding who was president and when

The phone call is underway.

I know how it is likely to end. With washing it’s hands and leaving Ukraine to the torturers and butcherers.

The Russian main objective is to get rid of the US in the context of the war. It thinks it can win a military victory if US military support is abandoned, as it calculates, probably correctly, that European powers, will be unable to send as much heavy equippment and munitions as Ukraine will need to not be broken. This is all ridiculous, since Ru is close to its breaking point, but of course, when you get served victory on a platter with a losing hand, you grab it and sacrifice a bit more economically to continue until you win.

At most Putin will concede nonsense about accepting Ukrainian statehood and ladi da, as well as accepting to only keep the 5 regions Ru now claims without controling them.

Ukraine cannot accept the loss of zaporizhzhia and Kherson Oblast, which Ru doesn’t even control 50% of. It is possible that Trump would be willing to press Ukraine to cede these. Ukraine, in a final peace deal, would accept the loss of Krim most likely, and maybe even Luhansk (more than 90% of it under Ru control). But not the rest that Ru is years from taking.
I say years, conditioned with foreign aid. The loss of US aid, the betrayal of the US, has led to catastrophical loss of UKR morale (all of this is entwined, if soldiers no longer think they are supported and can technically stave Ru off, desertions and surrenders will increase, quiote obviously). Lack of munitions will lead to lower Ru personell losses, thus leading to more successful Ru infantry and mechanised assaults. All of this togheter, can break the back of the noble and heroic Ukrainian army, which is otherwise years from being broken.

Trump is now likely to give Ru victory within sight (within a year), and when they smell that the end is near like they have been since Trump was elected, they have 0.00 incentive to negotiate (why would they when they can see that conditions for Ukraine is drastically getting worse).
If this leads to a Ru victory, Trump will have made the modern day Nazi-Germany appetite for further expansion, as it again, succeeded. So there is no reason for Ru imperialism to fade, rather strenghten.

Would be amazing to write a Mea Culpa later today, but that’s perhaps not very likely.

I would love Europe to take a principled stand and back Ukraine to the hilt. It could be the genesis of a necessary European army to withstand any global threat, including likely further expansionist plans from Russia.

Russia is not strong right now, and a concerted effort from Europe, to equip Ukraine, could lay down a marker for peace for a long time.

If Russia gets what they want, peace is out of the question, as they will just keep coming for more.

White House says JD Vance invited Pope Leo to visit Trump in Washington

The White House said JD Vance ‘passed along a letter’ from Donald Trump inviting the Pope to visit him. It’s unclear whether or not the Pope accepted.

But instead, both Europe and the US is making this cynic, that I have followed for several years and often only grudgingly agreed with, in all likelyhood, have the correct prediction.

Thumbs up, not because I like it, but because it will probably work out like that.

I see an opportunity for Europe, and a clear need for an independent European deterrent that will only grow… but I fear the moment won’t be seized. Russia will have a chance to regroup, rearm, and go again in a few years as they move westward. Ugh.
