It takes two sides to make peace though, unless it is a form of capitulation. Musk may well capitulate soon and he will definitively lose, but still early and it depends on the attacks from Trump most likely. If Trump indeed seeks deescalation, then Musk will aabsolutely go for that as soon as possible.
I will note that the last part of the guardian article (which really is a politico article) also reads like pure speculative nonsense. There are other sources including Trump, showing that he did not at all take this lightly.

Well, they are two egomaniac narcissists who will never accept defeat as we know.
Musk might try to sell a retreat as strategic, but Trump’s power lies in the fear he evokes in his underlings. If one stands up to him and gets away with it the edifice starts to crack.
Musk probably doesn’t have many allies and is not in a position to topple Trump, but he’ll hate any loss of face.

Of course, Trump will win. Power is always victorious over mere wealth.
But I am not arrogant enough to claim to know the “how” or “when”. Nor should you be.
This is still an event with unknown fallout as of yet. Unpredictable in terms of damage and in still in flux.
They will both chicken out very quickly however Trump will not be able to control himself and spark it off again.
Some in the White House must be running around like headless chickens trying to keep Trump from saying or posting anything.
They are like twins having a spat, both chicken out then one can not resist a poke and it all boils over again. These are not grown men we’re talking about, childish chickens more like it.
