Trump’s confusion on who was president in 2020 is already well documented. To that you can add confusion of which party actually controls all levers of government today
Quite amusing really, given that they are in fact doing something right now about exactly the escalating rates problem he is pointing to
The most scary thing about the Trump Regime is the fact that they still have more than THREE years left to continue the demolition job.
There isnt much that shocks me anymore about their depths, but this did
Using the power of the State to go after your enemies is as clear a no go as there is, but how many levels does this go beyond?
- Enemies defined simply by speech opposing government actions and priorities
- Feeling insulated enough from consequences to openly say this on TV
- It not even being an official government official but just the wife of one (kind of because even Miller’s role is nebulous).
There was a time not that long ago that Stephen Miller would have been out of his job before they even went to commercial with comments like that.
Holy crap, this is the most deranged one yet. It is unambiguously illegal for the USDA to engage in partisan politicking and while pbviously we have moved on from caring about laws on how the government is required to function, the language here is astonishing
but you know, ‘checks and balances’.
Turns out ‘the Founders’ were full of crap.
What I have always found to be the weakness of American political philosophy, is the pedestal they place their Founders on. 1789. I repeat, 1789. Different era, different knowledge, different social and political factors.
Then of course, first thing that happes is that Americans ammended it, most of them also in 17-something. Last of them in 1971.
But some how, “The Founders” are sacred and infalliable. It’s anti intellectual and just stupid. Factors are not the same in 2025 and in 1800.
There is no chance, no chance in hell, that a vulgar conman like Trump, could have been foreseen by “The Founders”. Their culture was different, very different, they would not recognice the vulgar America of today (of course).
I’m not sure. There were snake oil salesmen even then (and indeed before that).
There is nothing new under the sun and he just a moment crystalised by decades of process.
The political culture is very different though and Trump isn’t a normal conman really.
I don’t think they could foresee this anyway.
I would say that that is the remit of a conman. The perfect conman being one that half believes it…

Nothing more to say about this, than that really.
One can argue that they could have foreseen it, as you say, but that does not change what I wrote and the issues with the culturally infalliable founders and their constitution.
What are you? Some sort of Commie?

The second post is pretty on mark, I think.
Also
It was on mine, since Tucker is chiefly pro Putin more than anything else.
One of the most buried realities of the founders’ thinking is they envisioned the role of president very differently than it became. While the 3 branches are presented as coequal, they envisioned the president being little more than an administrator. They even debated if the role of singular president was even required for the “executive” branch to function. Thus they put what they thought the actual power in the distributed body of congress. The point of this is that in gaining independence from a “tyrant” king, the whole point of their structure was to protect against a person like Trump.
What they never envisioned was the legislative branch, and to a lesser degree the judicial, actively giving up their power the way they increasingly have over the past 20 years or so allowing an office administrator to increasingly take on kingly power.
This whole thing though does tie in to your observation about the central issue of the pedestal Americans put the founders and the constitution on. It is utterly uncontroversial to say they knew the constitution was an imperfect, borderline undesirable, compromise (few of them liked the 3/5 compromise as one obvious example). They were the original “Agile Development” group who knew they could not afford to keep tweaking until it was perfect and needed to ship something with an agreement they would keep refining it in post-production. Yet today Americans treat it as some sacrosanct document the founders themselves would be aghast about.
Mitch didnt eliminate the filibuster on SC appointments because the Dems had given them permission by previously doing it on lower federal court appointments (to break a log jam McConnell had created by refusing to let the Senate confirm judges). He did it because he needed to and what the Dems had previously done was absolutely irrelevant.
This should be a lesson that Republicans dont need permission to do what they want to do and Dems should stop running scared from doing the thing they want to do but wont because “what if the Republicans respond in kind”.
There is a non-zero chance that Vance’s vision for how to win the presidency in 2028 involves divorcing Usha and marrying Kirk’s wife.
Ok this is my last one, but this is incredible. Look how much the real De Blasio seems to have enjoyed this ![]()
I agree with Kim Høvik…
But of course, it IS possible that this is old fashioned diplomacy. Of course, the most effective diplomacy, is always backed up with the threat of military strikes. That is old as diplomacy itself. But, much indicates that Trump will want to follow through, his psychological profile for one.
Also, more leaks to New York Post this time:

Now that Maduro has asked Russia, North Korea and Iran for military aid

They are also on a timer. You don’t want to wait too long before you strike, unless it’s a surprise attack (which this obviously isn’t).
As for Venezula’s request for Russian, Iranian and Chinese military aid; good luck getting them to ship any (actually, I hope the Russians do).
