But we have a very, very close, and special, relationship with the US - particularly in defense and (ironically?) intelligence… sooo, we should be fine - whatever happens to Europe!
edit - on a slightly different note, only perhaps more seriously, it was quite distracting how Starmer was talking about the largely [continent] European effort to draft the security protocols and having to jump to the usual - “Europe and and we in the UK…” to make sure not to cause offence to sensitive audiences.
Apart from Mamdani, has there been any internal pushback to Trump? From the Dems or anyone else? Maduro was bad enough but he’s now openly talking about attacking a NATO ally.
Yeah I get the argument, but I think we still have to account for the flow of information from these organizations to the places where the general public actually engages with news. Even if people only get their info from TikTok a portion of that content is still influenced by what the big establishment orgs are covering, and how they are covering it.
It’s been mixed. There was the expected support from South Florida dems, and a lot of scared of their own shadow bullshit with unnamed dems airing gripes to the press off the record about us needing to be careful to not reflexively criticize everything Trump does. But in the main I think the response has been pretty good. It’s just ultimately a bit meaningless with a Republican congress who have abdicated their position as a coequal branch of government meaning all the Dems can do is stand on the sidelines and criticize.
This is like that time when you told everyone for week you were on track with your project that you had not even started on. Then the day before it is due you open one of the files sent to you in a key email only to find you dont have access and have to formally request it from the person you have been lying to for weeks.
Being reported that in Minneapolis an hour or so ago that an ICE agent shot and killed a woman in her vehicle that was blocking the roadway. I was watching an on site report, and they had heard she died at the hospital. An eyewitness he talked to said she saw the vehicle with a deployed airbag, blood strewn inside, and a woman lying in the street with blood soaked head.
Reporter also said that FBI had taken over the case immediately, and that the federal agent who allegedly shot the victim, had left the scene before police arrived. Bovino, the head border patrol whack-a-doodle was supposedly on scene during report, not during incident.
Federal agents are now actively killing American citizens on the street. If the person responsible for the shooting is not in custody by this evening, we are, none of us, safe. I also believe this may be the percursor for Trump to declare martial law, and try and do away with elections.
Of course the official line from DHS contradicts this and has already argued this was justified, but keep in mind they tried prosecuting the woman in Chicago they shot based on fabrications that fell apart in court. Of course, there was no accountability of the officer then
A statement from the Dept of Homeland Security said that “violent rioters weaponized” a vehicle and attempted to run over officers. “An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots,” the statement said. “He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers.”
