Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

I wouldn’t laugh at your son’s choices, he sounds like an idealistic and principled guy, like his dad.
Really sorry to hear about your situation, I hope it doesn’t put too much strain on your family. There must be thousands of similar difficulties for families across the country, especially those with connections to other parts of the continent.
All the best to you. YNWA :raised_fist:t3:

Nothing to add to that post. I started to write on the tangent on your first paragraph, but you say it best.

You are a very good man, ROTW.

I’ve noticed that no one is talking about it, so I may as well mention it. Iran refuses to back down and they are not sending that fleet for show (as well as flying in air defence to Jordan).
There is going to be a bombing campaign soon, triggering whatever (I cannot say).

Easy to miss this, maybe. Since the US is so crazy, but there will be a conflageration now quite soon. Everything points to military action. Rumours are that the UK and France is in on this one.
Israeli media reports that Israeli intelligence assess that a US led strike on Iran is around the corner.

(now if Trump would have punished Iran while they were busy massacring protestors, that would be one thing, but this is hardly driven by that).

The reason the 700 and 800 are not certified is because the FAA waived the fuel-icing test for 2 years. That is not an optional test in Canadian airspace - temperature on the ground today in Ottawa was colder than the threshold. Note that the FAA only certified the 800 in April 2025, it is a new model …many years ago indeed.

No idea what he is talking about for the 500 and 600 series.

I don’t understand it. I will not pretend to know what he is speaking about (I don’t , have not read enough about this at all!)

I understand little of what drives this, except revenge for China outreach, I would guess.

Sure he has no idea what he is on about at any time, making noises about Iran,he needs to be careful, if Iran has nukes they may feel they have nothing to lose and Christ help the rest of us.

So Trump is suing the US Federal Government for $10bn??

Ok. Seems normal.

10m seems to be the main figure in his multiple sueings.

There was one case from the end of his first term that stuck in my mind as Kamala was getting criticized for warning Trump would turn the military on its own citizens. There was a antifa protestor from Portland who had a warrant issued for his arrest for the alleged killing of a counter protestor, a member of the Proud Boys like group Patriot Prayer. He admitted to the killing, but presented it as the Counter Protestors showing up to cause violence, attacking people including him, causing him to act in self-defense. The context is this was days after the Kyle Rittenhouse incident and so a real test of the sort of self-defense claims the right were making for him.

A week later, the US Marshals went in with no attempt to arrest him just shot him dead. Trump publicly celebrated it, praising the judge dread style justice, and was content to condemn the victim without any sort of due process because “antifa bad”. Essentially, we got the bad guy and that is all that matters.

So I just dont get the perspective of people like Joshi that this is surprising or even quick. Hell, or even that what is happening in MN is different in kind in their brutality and illegality than operations they already ran last year in LA and Chicago. This is what always happens with Trump…he clearly flags his intentions but it is so far outside the lines of what people expect that “serious people” just ignore it, often while dunking on the people taking it seriously for being hysterical and partisan. At some point there is an inflection point where it can no longer be denied and then say “how could we have ever guessed we’d reach this point.”

I could have sworn this weekend was Europe’s turn, or at least China’s. We were definitely on last weekend, so it is absolutely not our turn.

I am astonished at how many screens that film is playing on in this market…with absolutely no one going. Multiple completely empty, I saw a screenshot of one that was supposedly the biggest turnout in the Ottawa market - all but 4 seats available 10 minutes before showtime.

I’m just observing logistics.

The absolute dumbest act of self-immolation on what was probably the US’ greatest avenue for exerting soft power

Solving a problem that does not exist in the interest of making the economy (and in my very biased opinion, the country) way worse off.

In what way does the ban of high skilled foreign workers benefit the economy?

They give lip service to supporting highly skilled workers, as is required for SV to effectively staff itself, but there is a portion of their movement who fucking hate Indians (the primary recipients of these type of skilled worker visas) so that is in tension. But the other thing is this is the primary pathway for foreign students to stay and work once they graduate, and this same group think foreigners going to our universities are crowding out white men. So this attack on students supposedly opens up space for white men to get university places they arent getting anymore, but also cuts off a source of job market competition from foreigners at the source.

It’s just incoherent nonsense driven by know-nothing venal people, the majority of whom dont want to have see brown people. And its wild, as there are few people more authentically and legitimate patriotic as a foreigner who came the US as a student and then built their life here afterwards
