This administration is full of highly educated catholics (lots converted protestants) who have read everything about the Catholic church but somehow fucking hate the idea of catholicism and the pope. Its very very very weird.
I would imagine there are plenty in the admin who will be able to cite to you letters written by Pope Clement, but still not know what the Pope says the bible says about being kind to poor people.

Their ‘religion’ is all for show, playing to a Christian Nationalist audience. It turns my stomach as a sincere Christian believer. I don’t recognize their religion. It gives them a real problem when a proper religious leader calls their shit out, on the basis of some of the basic tenets of the Christian faith.
Threatening the Pope really plumbs the depths. It is depraved.
Legitimate issues with the Catholic Church don’t magically disappear, but it is lovely to see such a powerful man, the leader of 1.5 BILLION people globally, stand against Trump and the madness of MAGA, on behalf of what is right and decent.
The more it gets under Trump’s skin, the better. The more he reacts and threatens the Pope, the more he will damage himself.
