Cuba isn’t known for its guerilla war tactics

If he goes there expect more prolonged fighting

His brother is MAGA or at least MAGA adjecant. Or was anyway.

The guys with a white suit with long arms can’t be far away now.
This little sideshow could be quite expensive,if Trumps dribbling is even close. The thing appears to be a box boat ,”seeing what is on board “could be problematic, opening all the containers at sea would be impossible, and manifests will look innocent..they always are.

8 children shot dead in Louisiana, 7 of which were his own.

You had to scroll quite a way down the NYT to find this story.

An appalling tragedy.

These things can happen anywhere, but when you have virtually zero gun control and minimal mental health and social care, they become much more likely.
Oh well, low taxes and the right to bear arms are more important than the safety of children apparently. Who was it that called themselves Pro Life?

Saw this yesterday and was wondering why it wasn’t a bigger news item. I see Mike Johnson is offering to hold close and pray…

Sadly all too often an occurrence in the US. The press has become numb to it.

Feels like another world.

I wonder if there can be change in the near term? People mention the mid terms but let’s say that the Dems win big - what does that actually mean? Trump will remain in power and likely remain in power till his time is up. What can meaningfully change in the next 3-5, maybe even 10, years?

In terms of these shooting tragedies, nothing will change. The concept of ‘freedom’ is so warped in the US that they accept these events as a natural part of life.

I doubt it. There’s just no appetite for it from what I’ve seen.

From my distant perspective, for it to happen you,d need a full reset of the entire country. Wipe it clean and start again. None of these shootings appears horrific enough for the US as a nation to push for change. I can’t get my head around that, other than they’re completely numb to it.

Chalk up another one for the “you’re being ridiculous, they are only talking about illegal immigration” crew and their refusal to actually listen to what was being said by Trump and the campaign (and what they did in their first term)

I just read the article about it and wanted to post it here.
And there are so many who are celebrating this again. (We are getting our homeland back etc.)

It would take a Republican to change gun laws, certain states have brought further restrictions in but the Supreme Court often interferes.

It’s the Magyar case, a lot of the attacks on him didn’t land as he was centre right and a member of Fidez up til 2-3 years ago. However Republicans level a charge at a Democrat on gun control and it sticks even if it’s bollocks.

Yeah I think that is right. I made a similar point at the beginning of Covid - responding properly was going to require sacrifices and government actions that only a Republican would ever be given the room to require of people. Of course Trump didnt take that opportunity, but when you think of the alternative I shudder to think how the country would have reacted to President Hillary asking the country to do anything.

The gun issue is more complex than a straight partisan divide as lots of elected Dems do support fairly liberal access to guns and publicly opposing restrictions is a way that elected dems with a rural/working class constituency can display their independent streak to their voters that they think they need to win in areas where the Dem brand is troubled. SO I think even if Dems were to win a trifecta in 2028 with a super majority in the senate required to pass legislation, they would have enough defectors to prevent them doing anything substantive on gun control.
