Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

I took a test in San Francisco back in 2001 and passed first time…

ditto

I really don’t care for driving. I wish I had a driverless car and everyone else also. I can see this turning into a “right to bear arms” struggle.

Seems there is an inverse correlation between premium cost and reduction in vehicular deaths… the assumption being that it got much (much) more expensive for teens to get insured and hence drive around.

edit - laws and regulation seem to have helped… an informative tale?

That was exactly my NC experience, just drove a few blocks and I thought I had missed a stop sign or something driving in an unfamiliar area when he abruptly said ‘OK, we’re done’. Far easier than the test I took in Quebec.

I had been driving in the UK for years, but my first driving license in America was issued in Arizona. I did the written test. Fine. I was about to do the driving test but they were busy and the fella just processed me and gave me a driving license when he heard I had been driving in the UK for years.

Since I’ve been in Indiana I have renewed the original AZ license here a couple of times, but nobody, in an official capacity, has seen me drive in America.

Mind you, I’m a bloody champion at driving! Never even had so much as a ticket.

When I moved to Germany, there wasn’t even a test. They just issued me with a German license to replace my existing UK one (this was pre-Brexit). The only thing I was required to have was a medical for a couple of commercial vehicle categories that I had, and I simply didn’t bother to transfer them, because I am a bloody liability in an articulated vehicle to begin with.

I am serious here. Does anyone else think Trump has a few glasses of something at night and then posts of Truth Social? It seems the very essence of drunk and regret texting!

Taken from x:

When Trump was in Berlin for his first state visit with Angela Merkel he asked the secret of her great success.

Merkel told him you have to have intelligent people around you.

“How do you know if someone is intelligent?” asked Trump.

“Let me demonstrate.” She picked up the phone, called Wolfgang Schäuble and asked him a question, “Mr. Schäuble, he’s your father’s son but not your brother. Who is it?”

Without hesitation Schäuble answered, “Quite simply, it’s me!"

“You see,” Merkel told Trump, “this is how I test a person’s intelligence.”

Thrilled, when Trump flew home he called Mike Pence and asked him the same question. ”He’s your father’s son, but is not your brother. Who is it?"

After much back and forth, Pence said,
“I have no idea, but I’ll try to find out the answer by tomorrow!"

Of course Pence couldn’t figure it out and decided to seek advice from former President Obama, so he called him and said, “Mr. Obama, it’s your father’s son, but is not your brother. Who is it?"

Obama answered, “Easy, it’s me!"

Happy to have found the answer, Pence called Trump and said triumphantly, “I have the answer, it’s Barack Obama!”

Trump raged and shouted, "No, you jackass, it’s Wolfgang Schäuble

Milk? With cheese :cheese_wedge: and biscuits :cookie:?

I don’t think he regrets anything. He can’t remember what he’s done and do repeats everything to infinity.

I believe most states do similar if you have 5 years of experience and insurance, but sometimes struggle with verification of non-North American licenses - I did not at the time have the required 5 years.

When the tariffs first started going in a new market emerged to buy the rights to someone’s potential future refund. Investment groups were buying these contracts for pennies on the $ from companies who didnt know if refunds would ever be coming, if so when or how much, but needed relief now.

Its a bit predatory, but a legitimate market. Anyway, now the proceedings have started where the tariffs are having to be repaid it has emerged that the primary player in buying these tariff refund contracts is Cantor Fitzgerald, a group run by Lutnik’s kids.

I dont think that the immediate family of people involved in the high levels of government should have to forgo important careers over concerns of conflicts of interest but, this is an ENORMOUS CoI given Lutnik’s role int he tariff situation and this from a movement that found Hunter’s work in Ukraine a problem just because his dad was VP

This is disgusting. Keep in mind, USCIS is a fee funded org. It gets almost no budget from the Fed and instead runs its entire operation based on the fees immigrants pay to them to process their shit. This admin is taking people’s money, not processing their shit and then detaining/deporting them once they go out of status.

It’s quite a bit strange for me to see Annalena there, to be honest. (former German Foreign Minister (Greens))
