Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

GOP budget further increasing the deficit they pretend to care about, and about which the press pretends to believe but only when Dems are in the majority

I should have posted this above post in the War thread and I apologice for that.

But since this is Iran’s answer, I am also posting that here for context.

I’ll also include this amusing addendum, since it is kind of related

Yeah I do remember the suggestion the Republicans could never win again. I do think we might see that…post Trump though it’s probably more likely the party splits.

I didn’t think it was possible but the Conservatives are showing that. Then again I wouldn’t write them off if the certain strands of the media want to bring them back they will do every bit to lessen Reform.

Credit spending through the roof is good for the United States ?

This makes no sense even if you are a right wing economist ! Higher credic card debt in the populace = more will be bankrupt or insolvant = less spending in the future = less economic growth for the state.

He’s presumably spinning it that its a sign of people having the cash to pay the debt off but using the card as a convenience.

No, that’s not correct. There are only discounts for children, seniors, the unemployed, etc. Otherwise, I would have to pay the same as you. Specifically, at the museum or the zoo, etc. I specifically checked to see if anything had changed.

And a ā€œKur Taxā€ is something completely different. German visitors also pay that when they stay in special spa towns (Kurort) So it has nothing to do with foreigners. There are no differences based on nationality.

I worked in the travel industry for many years and even lived in a spa town myself. All these surcharges have absolutely nothing to do with the nationality of the visitors.

Sorry for going off-topic. :slightly_smiling_face:

Not sure if this is an issue. Isn’t the US a net exporter of oil and gets much of its imports from what Canada produces?

We’re both a net exporter and heavily reliant on imports

To be fair I hadn’t thought about tourist tax that makes sense.

I do know there is at least somewhere I went in Berlin where it had nationals for free though yeah it wasn’t everywhere.

Two absolutely dreadful pieces news about the DoJ today

  1. The FBI conducted a raid of Lorena Lucas’ congressional office, the Dem who was the vocal leader of the Virginia redistricting effort and seemingly tipped off Fox News about it.

  2. The DoJ has intervened on Trump’s behalf on his appeal over the E Jean Carroll civil case as if they are his personal lawyers.

We are way past the line of rule of law being gone and still people like to pretend that the lines are holding

Most of US oil production is from light oil deposits, which is fine for the production of gasoline. But the US has to import massive amounts of heavier crude in order to meet requirements for heavier fuels, and chemical processes - particularly plastics production. It supplies that requirement both from Canada and from the Middle East. The Canadian flow is steady, but fairly inflexible due to the fact that a pipeline can only be sped up so much.

That bit is much too complex a paradox for MAGA to comprehend. I have read countless of comments, even from people I know are highly educated, who are ā€œpfff, we have gas and oil, not an issue and the Japanese can buy from us, so not a big problem for them either. All will be well, we are in safe hands with a winnerā€.

It’s as if they don’t care to understand it on a deeper level.
