Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

So Trump’s actions did little and now he’s, in the view of his own people, negotiating with terrorists.

Incredible what Trump accomplished in one generation, something that took European royalty centuries of inbreeding.

Where did all of these ICE agents come from? Are they repurposed cops? Have they always been there?

Massie shot back: “Ask Mike Pence about his last month,” referencing the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

Kind of enjoying Massie lately

The Democrats are no longer the party of the working class. They are the party of highly educated progressive elites largely disconnected from the rest of the country.

This was the last poll from the NYC mayoral election.

Whites - ie rich white liberals from the Upper East Side - are supporting Mamdani, blacks and Latinos are not.

The Democrats have not learned the lessons from the 2024 election. They are bleeding support in minority communities to play to their highly educated progressive base, which is very much a minority in the country.

The other huge problem for the Democratic leadership is that they keep recycling these retreads. Andrew Coumo WTF? There’s nobody else they could have found?

There are far far too many septuagenarians and octogenarians in the Democratic leadership. That’s one reason why Mamdani is going to win. These people have stayed far past their sell by date.

The dichotomy is that their young activist base is even more out of touch with the American public. Progressives winning in a D+60 district means nothing.

Would another way of saying this point out that Republicans are no longer the party of educated people? That you need to be uneducated, malleable, and unable to decipher when you are voting against your own interest, in order to be a mainstream Republican?

Apart from the billionaire class at the helm, of course, who are in the midst of passing a bill for one of the largest upward transfers of wealth in the nation’s history.

Edit
Talk of age, and elitism, rather rings hollow when the leader of the Republicans is a senile almost-80 year old; and the largest benefactor is the richest man in the world.

College educated voters are 36-38% of the vote. Democrats are losing the white working class voter by 2:1, and are bleeding working class voters across all races. It’s a math problem.

Not only that, but the field will tilt even more so towards red states after the 2030 election as people move from blue states to red states. Without course correction - or Republican excesses, which is certainly possible - the Democrats are about to become a permanent minority party.

And telling people that you know what is best for them ain’t a winning strategy

This is a democratic primary. How on earth do these data support what you are saying.

The logic is pretty simple to follow on this one.

In general, educated people have a level of rational thinking that escapes a lot of the uneducated population, who are controlled in part by emotion and fear. Educated people are in general less likely to believe in cloudy fairies aka gods, and are more likely to question things rather than instantly g getting behind something just because it’s part of their long held belief. They don’t want to be challenged in mind.

There are obviously exceptions to this, just like there are exceptions to education= rational thinking, with antivax educated parents. In that case, often that education works against rational thinking, with the belief that the parents know better than the medical professionals who have studied for half a decade or more in the field.

The right-wing parties of this world recognise they can tap into this fear and emotion and lack of rational thinking of the uneducated, and that they are ripe for the spreading of misinformation.

Think about sex education in Africa decades ago applied to let women understand they have rights, can have dreams and aspirations and that they don’t have to be born into being a baby factory.

Lack of education is simply a hole for the right wingers to exploit.

Tough shit if that comes across as ‘holier than thou’, particularly the main paragraph block. I’m sure I’m about to be told that my line of thinking is exactly why the Dems are in the predicament they are in.

The point is I don’t know the solution. Just as second amendment beliefs appear to be something passed down to the next generation, so is education, or lack of.

Manhattan is where the most progressive Democrats live. The working class Democrats - you know, the ones who serve the progressive Democrats in Manhattan - live in the outer Burroughs. This is how they voted in 2021. We will find something similar in 2025.

The green was for the most progressive candidate, Kathryn Garcia. The blue was for the more centrist candidate, Eric Adams, who ran on tough on crime issues.

This election was a great microcosm for all the problems of the progressive Left. The people living in Manhattan, particularly the Upper East and West Sides, live in a detached theoretical world. They’re well off to rich, mostly white, and can wallow in the indulgent progressive ideologies of guilt and shame while their drivers drop their kids off at $60,000 a year daycare and have their personal shoppers buy their groceries at Whole Foods. I know these people better than any of you do. These are your seven figure donations to whatever trendy progressive causes before they go to yoga class.

ITM, the people who wake up at 4 in the morning and spend 18 hours scraping to make a living so their children can have a better life live in the real world of crime and having to endure the crumbling and increasing chaotic and violent infrastructure that the progressive elite avoid.

That’s the Democratic Party today. It’s a party of delusional ideologues funded by rich single issue patrons and NGOs captured by an extreme element promoting identity politics, victimhood and Western self-loathing. The American working class is hard-working, patriotic and loves America. That’s why the Democrats will continue to be disconnected from everywhere else outside the 25 cities it runs (into the ground) and a few rich enclaves such as Aspen and Martha’s Vineyard.

And what is the Republican Party today?

Lots of commentary on the Dems, but what about the other way?

Authoritarian. Post truth. Judiciary going, going, gone? Congress neutered. Deficit growing. Wealth transfer upward. Grifting on an unprecedented scale.

It is a fair comment that the Dems have work to do.

But to neglect the MASSIVE flaws in the MAGA Republican Party, while continually sniping at the Dems, is to enable the monster that has taken over.

You are complicit sir.

Put your energy into the right battle, which is to take down a monster.

All policies aimed at helping the poorest in society.

Cuomo is part of an NY political dynasty who was backed by the national party and supported by billionaires.

His only attributes were name recognition and the overwhelming backing of the media.
