Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

In particular, it connects to the finding of ‘urban food deserts’, low-income areas where access to healthier diet options is extremely limited, but the larger grocery chains struggle to make a location there viable.

And food banks are not set up to deal with fresh food diets.

The DOD have announced a leak investigation into the document that Bertrand correctly reported on.

So either their position is that press should not report on evidence that contradicts the government, or their argument is “that is fake news and we’re going to track down and punish the people who leaked the report (that doesnt exist)”.

Anyway, regarding how awful Cuomo was if you want a chuckle see if you can find any of the range of interviews De Blassio has given since where his glee jumps off the screen. It’s pretty insightful to see just how fucking despised he was by people who had to work with or near him.

Blacks and Latinos - mostly working class - voted against Mamdani. “Asians” (people from the Middle East) and rich white woke progressives who employ blacks and Latinos voted for him.

The Democrats are no longer the party of the working class.

They are the party of highly educated elites promoting a toxic woke agenda in the name of people who don’t want it and who instead want to be Americans.

This is the strategy of a permanent minority party.

In what way is Trump the champion of the working class?

Here is a small example I know about. My wife works with the homeless. Specifically teenage mothers. They give them a place to live, make sure they finish high school and support them in getting a job, keeping a job, saving, having transport, clothes, community and support, and the idea is that over a two year period they transition out to self-sustainability.

Right now, specifically due to Trump’s war on the working class, they are significantly hindered in the great work they do.

Trump has removed their food assistance and also their vouchers for subsidized childcare. These young mothers, vulnerable, are trying to do the right thing and trying to make a go of it.

They would be the lowest of the working class and Trump has just shit on them from a great height.

My wife is trying to keep as many as possible provided for, through scrambling for donations in the private sector and churches and whatnot, and a number of them are a hair’s breadth from living in their car again, or couch surfing - with a baby in tow, in various bad situations downtown.

Trump is absolutely not a champion of the working class.

Edit
We know many MAGA voters and they are furious when they hear about this, and they are planning to not vote that way in the future, starting with the next midterms.

What is this?

Most of the working class voted for Trump.

As sympathetic as I might be towards the plight of the people whom your wife works with - my brother has been homeless - the Democrats are absolutely so awful and disconnected from the average working class family such that the working class sides with a narcissist with a golden toilet speaks volumes about today’s modern left.

If you’re on the left and you’re losing, blaming the voters for your situation is a detachment from reality.

100% of the working class voters in this election voted for the democrat.

I don’t think I’ve been able to make it through a single Trump tweet/“truth” (in the last few years especially) without completely checking out. How people bear his rambling at rallies is beyond me.

Love this ’ been through hell’ bit. You sat in a nice safe air conditioned room while people handed you burgers and told other people to tell other people to drop bombs on other peoples’ country then gave a few minutes speech and shitposted a bit. Maybe missed one round of golf.

Yeah it’s absolutely gross isn’t it. The complete empathy lobotomy he displays will probably be a case study in future psychology/psychiatry text books.

The party who pretends to have serious concerns about anti-semitism looks at a picture of a muslim and reflexively says “terrorist”

This is embarrassing. It is precisely because guys like this think they deserve this power and their utilization of it is what the people want is why pols like Mamdani are so compelling. This dumb fuck watched Mountainhead and thought it was a “how to” guide.

This is deranged. The biggest Asian group in NYC are the Chinese and you have excluded them and lots of other sizeable demos from your “Asians”. Fuck, there is even an entire district named after the Chinese you might have heard of. That district preferred Mamdani.

As for using race/ethnicity as a surrogate for class or wealth, we can actually look at those direct data instead

Mamdani won the broad middle, the group you’d want if you wanted to have broad appeal. Cuomo won only on the ends. He won among the very poorest, a Demo who when they vote are very heavily skewed towards name recognition. And he won among the rich you are denigrating as being representative of a losing coalition and being out of touch.

But again, I don’t know what any of this sort of within party breakdown actually means with respect to the narrative you are pushing. This was a (closed) primary and represents only registered Democrats voting for Democratic party candidates.

Like I said, there are probably lessons the party should take from this. How to connect with the broad middle portion and what issues get their attention. What it means that many in the establishment were willing to put their weight behind a guy so disliked by that broad middle. But these are narratives that are 180 degrees opposed to the angle you are pushing.
