Problem is of course that Forza Italia is a Nationalist populist party. No way in hell can they take this abuse from vulgar MAGA clowns without exploding. US should know that, but whatever.

i’d love to see the next President of the USA (would need to be Democrat),
come out and publicly apologise to the world, (on behalf of America) for everything Donald said and did during his reign…

Like most things in US politics, only a Republican would be given the room to do this without facing intense criticism and we saw exactly this pattern play out with Obama.
He came to power not just as a critic of the Iraq war but also of how we treated our allies in trying to conduct it (if you’re not with us you are against us). He expanded on that early in his presidency (see Cairo speech and the European town hall in france) and the right branded it his “apology” tour and presented it as evidence of how he was anti-american. That became something he never shook.

While I am a Social Democrat and far removed from Meloni and Forza Italia politically, it is so refreshing that they are nationalists. Liberals, normal conservatives, social democrats; no one would bother with this confrontation because it carries a potential political cost. But clownish MAGA neo-fascists are attacking Italian dignity and honour, and of course, Meloni, bless her, is not going to ignore that.
At this point in time, I am actually happy that Italy has a right wing government. (apologies to Italians, I know it is otherwise shitty domestically).

But there is nothing stopping left of centre parties also adopting a robust ‘nationalist’ stance according to need, nor policies on immigration that allow them to retain control of the rest of the political ‘discourse’.

And even if it’s not open conflict militarily, it would be nice to see America stop sending so much money to Israel, in the many billions, every year.

They have been aggressively pushing the boundaries (both in literal, and hypothetical sense) since October 7, 2023. Perhaps it’s the attack on Iranian consulate in Damascus on 1 April 2024 when they felt they can get away with anything.
It’s absolutely incredible the way Trump telegraphs the elementary things he himself has just learned.
