On a more serious note, this is the second relatively high profile “I will not subject myself to the executive interference we are now experiencing” resignation I have seen this week

This is paywalled and so this is a summary

  • Retatrutide is Lilly’s experimental GLP drug, the first of its class that is triple action
  • There are regulatory pathways to getting access to experimental drugs before they are approved that involve compassionate use. Essentially, these support patients who are so sick and without other options that they have lost nothing if the drug is unsafe and kills them. Notably Trump even in his first term was a BIG proponent of the FDA being allowed to do this without realizing the mechanisms already existed
  • This report claims Lilly gave unprecedented compassionate use access in April of this year to a single 79 year old male who was petitioned on behalf of a senior clinician at the National Institutes of Health who requested it for a patient with refractory obesity (multiple failed attempts to lose weight and keep it off) with obstructive sleep apnea and pulmonary hypertension (labored breathing and trouble keeping your blood properly oxygenated)

Apropos of nothing, Trump turned 80 earlier this month.

It’s all just distractions from all the worst things that they are doing.

I was in an American school for the 1976 bicentennial, and I remember how much work was being done to celebrate it - Ford as President really wanted it to be a major event, probably had a real sense of the post-Vietnam malaise of the time, and really avoided making it remotely political or partisan. Didn’t get him re-elected, but it did seem to really work, there was a great deal of excitement. I recall a photo of the reflecting pool on July 4, surrounded by tens of thousands of people (no algae visible, people in pool)

By contrast, the 250th doesn’t seem to be creating much excitement at all.

Can’t be surprised at the fencing,Donnie loves fences/walls makes him feel secure!
Love his idiotic claim the vandalising was done with a knife, it would scratch at best..not flake off in fucking great sheets, that is poor installation, or wrong product used.
By now thinking Americans must be wondering WTF they did!

They poured 10000s of liters of hydrogen peroxide in, which is used as a stripper for the acrylic paint used for the ‘American Flag Blue’. The refusal to discuss the basic chemistry is very much a ‘Emperor has no clothes’ phenomenon

That would lift the paint a treat, genius at work.

We are living in the stupidest of times. A Republican chemistry teacher who ‘should’ know exactly what’s happened and why will still convince him/herself that someone went in with a knife and ‘instant algae’.

So no, don’t hold your breath :man_facepalming:

Something else to keep tabs on over the coming weeks…

Trump’s ballroom scandal EXPLODES as Sen. Blumenthal launches offici@l probe into alleged $352 million Secret Service money raid.

The walls are closing in on Trump’s gaudy and unapproved ballroom scheme.

Senator Richard Blumenthal has issued an offici@l memo to the U.S. Secret Service announcing a formal investigation into “waste, fraud, and abuse” in Donald Trump’s White House ballroom project — demanding the agency hand over ALL records on the $352 million in Secret Service funds that were allegedly REDIRECTED to pay for it.

This is a big deal. Blumenthal isn’t some random critic — he’s one of the most respected oversight voices in the Senate, and he knows the Secret Service inside and out.

Remember that $352 million was specifically allocated to the Secret Service AFTER two assassination attempts on Trump. It was meant for agent training, recruitment, technology, and retention bonuses — the very resources that keep the president and his protectors safe. Instead, Trump’s budget office quietly funneled it to his vanity ballroom.

And it directly exposes Trump’s lie. He has repeatedly claimed the ballroom would cost $400 million and be funded ENTIRELY by private donors. But reporting revealed the re@l cost is $600 million — with more than HALF coming from taxpayers, including this raided Secret Service money.

Blumenthal’s credibility on this issue is ironclad. He led the bipartisan investigation into the July 2024 assassination attempt against Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania — the probe that found a “perfect storm of stunning failure” in the Secret Service, citing systemic breakdowns in planning, communication, and coordination. He’s spent years demanding the agency get MORE resources and reform, not less.

So when the same senator who fought to protect Trump from assassination now discovers that Trump is RAIDING the agents’ budget to build himself a ballroom — that’s a five-alarm fire.

The man who survived two assassination attempts is stealing from the people who saved his life to build a party room. And lying about who’s paying for it.

Blumenthal wants answers. The American people deserve them.

He might want answers but he’s an idiot for believing there were actual assassination attempts.

Maybe, but the Secret Service now has a genuinely concerning growing track record of incompetence and bad governance going back over a decade. If Obama was president today I would be genuinely concerned with their ability to keep him safe and I think that is what Blumenthal was trying to get ahead of

This is some sick stuff. Our refugee program has been turned upside down and turned into a Afrikaner welcome program. And the weirdest thing about it, a lot of this pivot appears to have been driven by Gary Player

Blumenthal has been quite credible, watch his congressional hearings in relation to Trump appointments, he is anything but an idiot.

This is outrageous

A court case requires there be an adversary. The Trump DoJ keeps inviting cases it has no interest in opposing to use the courts to rubber stamp actions it couldnt actually legally peruse.
