The Rosetta Stone for understanding the way this movement talks about immigration and immigrants is that actual legal status is irrelevant. To them, “illegal” simply means “undesirable” and they will change the rules post facto to remove your legal status overnight even if you have done everything right up to that point

This absurd trade war has sort of overshadowed the magnitude of what Treasury did last week. Buying long-term and selling short-term bonds is a form of quantitative easing, and really affects money supply. That is the role of the Federal Reserve. Leaving aside the fact that the only time that the US ever did this (as in the Fed) it was a slow-burn failure, a 4 year slide, it really gets to the foundations of who controls US money supply.
The Fed has always been somewhat more trusted than either its dual mandate or is structure as executive branch agency would suggest it should be. That is exactly the kind of norms/trust/precedent based institution that Trump has largely destroyed
