Pretty much all Pro Trump messaging requires us to ignore what is happening, and forget he was president from 2017-20, and was not actually president from 21 through 24

America has this thing where opinion havers like Theissen never need to actually be right, and no amount of being wrong - not the volume of wrongness or the severity of consequences - diminish their standing if they are saying what that other important opinion havers want to be true or want other people to believe is true.
The militarism of neoconservatism, the support of Reagan style “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” domestic policy, the “we on the left should do Republican stuff to get Republicans onside” reactionary centrism of people pretending to be Democrats…these are evergreen. And no amount of being wrong on any of these issues results in penalty as long as dont learn any lessons and commit to the bit to continue being wrong about them in the future.

Measles is an awful disease that does absolutely horrible things to your body that you never fully shake off. The lack of impact its had on any of our lives has made us lose all living memory of what it actually is.

At a time when your own voters are telling you very clearly that they are dissatisfied with the leeway we have given Israel, these moves bolster key committees with some of the most vocal belligerent pro israel voices in the caucus. Fucking Moskowitz is so relfexively pro Israel he’s even continued being a supporter of conflict with Iran.

Yep. Damaged sight in my right eye from age 5. It was only really eradicated in the UK when MMR was introduced in the 1980s.
One of the arguments that bemuses me is that catching measles is better for the immune system. One of the unfortunate effects of measles is that it wipes immune memory. It’s not just the initial infection that is the public health issue.

Yes. Decades later, people who caught measles still have poor immune response and are incredibly susceptible to infection to a broad range of pathogens, including ones we dont see very much of in the rest of the population.

I got it as a kid, and was lucky enough to get out of it without any further problem. I know quite a lot of people of my generation who had it as well without further lasting symptoms. At the time, the saying was that it was better to catch it as a kid, rather than as a grown-up. Doctors were supporting that view. Then again, I’m an old sod and that was in the early seventies.

No, it’s a consequence of infection at any age. As much as half the childhood deaths from infectious disease are estimated to be related to prior measles infections.
It’s across the board, but adults will have more immunity to lose.

What are the percentages of chances to catch a long-lasting problem? Just curious about this, as I’ve strictly no idea.

In undernourished individuals, secondary infections after measles infections often lead to death (10% in children under 5). And SSPE with 95% mortality rate is a complication with prevalence of ~7/100,000 cases. I don’t really have statistics for adults on hand but at least from the cases I have seen, measles and influenza A are some ‘common’ viruses that you absolutely don’t want in pregnancy.

I learned more about Measles. My knowledge of it was pretty similar to Hope’s (i.e. get it as a young child if you had to get it).
