Canadian tariffs go into force September 8, providing a near-term time frame to restart negotiations. My guess is that unless the negotiations restart, the F-35 deal will be cancelled September 16, with a Gripen contract announced by Carney in Europe that day. If negotiations do restart, I think the timing becomes more awkward.
In other news, I saw an analysis showing American firms now pay 64% more than the global price for aluminium. American suppliers donāt have the confidence in the tariff regime to make long-term capital investments, so instead they are just reaping short-term profits.
