There are already series of processes for it. Abuse of these processes has traditionally been one of the key voter disenfranchisement tactics the GOP have used in states they control

New Yorker this week has additional reporting on the role Kushner personally played in supporting MBS’ 2017 “coup.”

https://x.com/DenShtilierman/status/2100259280326729829?s=20

Included in here is the revelation that beyond the investment the Saudi’s subsequently made in Kushner’s investment fund, something personally approved by MBS against the opposition from the professionals who otherwise run PIF, he barely invested any of that money and just lived off the exorbitant “management fees” his fund charged.

The value of direct procurement of Canadian goods and services is about $50M. It is seen as a significant non-tariff trade barrier.

That thread of course identifies the much broader use of inputs

France imports almost 99% of it’s fossil fuels.
Something like 17% of it’s LNG imports come from Russia (these are long term contracts that in general are respected by both trading partners, reputation is important here).
There are plans in place to move to 0% from Russia. As indicated this will not involve breaking existing contracts so will not happen until the present contract ‘ends’. Sourcing alternatives is the big problem now.
It’s worth noting a percentage of gas coming into France then gets moved on to other European nations (Germany surely being the most important of these).
I don’t know the details of the plan of weaning off Russian fossil fuels. Obviously Trump’s war non war with Iran isn’t helping. All I do know is Algeria is in those plans (who already supply about 12% of France’s needs).

Trump is periodically very good for emissions. The problem is he just has to crash the world economy to achieve these reductions

It is such a problem that this idiotic conspioratorical ignoramus has charisma and that he is so popular among the low-information crowd on the US left. One could write a long articles about his many arrogant statements that is pure spin and ignorance.

Like Pawel, I too sometimes think of a way to escape the fact that such people have a following.

It would be on brand for the United States if post MAGA (if they survive post MAGA, that is not certain), the pendulum would swing and people like Hasan Piker would be the most attractive ideologues on the left, and not Bernie Sander or AOC. Because why not just traverse levels of hell instead of getting out of it…

They were not the right kind of Palestinians and tankies will be tankies.

This is the comment Axios focused in on, with a click baity headline about the US being worse than Al Queda, but the comments themselves, in their totality seem totally reasonable, Other whose credentials are unimpeachable have said similar.

I mean the fact the same day this story is breaking the UN said the bombing hes talking about is likely a war crime, seems important. The problem with Piker is he’s terrible message for this because for every critical ppint like this you have to acknowledge he says a LOT more dub shit. Like ok, its a credible argument to use this metric to criticize the US. But like you point out, how do you then argue that the likes of Assad, or even fucking Mao are good.

This:

Is pure spin and ignorance. And that was what I commented on. We both agree his outrage is selective, but I am more interested in his fact errors in this instance (and there are always so many).

As an example: Anyone who has followed the Syrian Civil War even just very cursory, and do not get their information from propaganda Tankie Sources; know extremely well that the US was not involved in the last offensive of Tharir al Sham that toppled Assad, and that it is certainly not behind Al Shaara. That is not just dumb shit, it is disqualifying ignorance, possibly lies.

And the claim the US has supported Al Qaida after 9/11 is pure idiocy.

The orange swan?

talking of wars,

there was a comment at work today about how years the USA has not been involved in any wars,

according to AI…

@Magnus, you know more than anyone here about wars, if this true??

Yeah this is precisely the danger of aligning with him. You can find common ground on some important ideas that I think are important establishment people start saying. But he is going to undercut you almost immediately by saying other dumb shit in his attempt to back up those comments. It’s not quite a case of a stopped clock being right twice a day, but not far from off.

Since WWII the US has bent over backwards to find ways to call wars anything other than a war. That is in part a reflection on the way wars have changed no longer requiring full national mobilization. But it’s mostly a PR and legal issue.

I’m honestly not sure of the correct number, so would have to read up.
Probably, the AI answer is either correct or close to correct, as logically any deviation has low probability to be very significant.

Edit: If there is a deviation, it is likely caused by questions around definition of peace.

Addendum: I am a big fan of actually distinguishing between limited minor skirmishes and clashes and real war though. Because it means different things and have very diffierent impact and outcomes.
