That seems very odd, doesnāt pass the basic āfor what?ā question. He has been prominent, his middle powers vision seems to be catching on, but has that actually brought peace anywhere?
To be fair, in these fairly dismal times, I am not sure who I would nominate.
Itās very odd as up till about the 60ās leaders generally didnāt even get a look in, odd one or two and as expected. Hitler actually once got a nomination was a sardonic one mind.
I listened to an interview over the weekend with Jensen Huang, the CEO of NVIDIA. Nothing could convince me more that strict regulation was needed than his farcical arguments for why self-regulation was sufficient. He just kept saying ādont ship dangerous productsā as if we havent seen over and over again that tech does in fact do that reoutinely. But more importantly, the concerns being raised currently are being driven by bad outcomes from products that had not yet been āshippedā. It was delusional, disconnected from reality and facts, and arrogant to nth degree.
Self regulation is no regulation. What if there is a clash between economic gain, or business advantage, and public safety? Who polices that - the shareholders?
Itās a dereliction of duty to have the AI industry start to gain such prominence and not have proper regulation.
It strikes me as such a potentially difficult thing that even with properly structured regulation, there will be issues, some perhaps huge. I half wonder if saying we donāt want independent regulation is an admission that they donāt fully know what they are doing, and where things might lead?
