EFL Cup / League Cup

Don’t mind playing them but I would prefer at Anfield.

Well I guess the returnees from Qatar won’t be ready for this one yet … so in that case we might have a tiny advantage due to less WC absentees?

Why not, give us more games against that lot.

Agree with the sentiment, however I feel I must point to them having a broader squad of top players and us going to likely play more than a few reserves. Although we seem to do well against City, this won’t be a league or UCL game, so I doubt Klopp will field the best he can field. I think we would benefit from going deep to get more matching and then this is a bit tricky if they field a solid team.

I don’t see such a difference between the squads. It’s more the injuries on our part. They will almost surely play a mixed side as well. We’ll see when we get there.

But that’s just me, we have 0 control over draws so I just get excited. Love it par example when we draw United in one of the FA Cup’s early rounds, when there’s still a sea of lower league sides.

In my book, you can never have enough of these games.

Fair enough and for sure it’s going to be a fun game !

I think Haaland, Mahrez, Ortega and Sergi Gomez are their only players not going to the World Cup.

Doubt Klopp and Pep will involve players who at least reach the WC semi finals as those games are being played one week before the League Cup game.

We will have

Adrian, Kelleher

Ramsay, Robertson, Tsimikas

Nat, Gomez, Matip

Milner, Thiago, Jones, Elliott, Ox (and maybe Keita)

Salah, Firmino, Carvalho, Diaz (and maybe Jota)

all available.

This draw is the best thing that could have happen to us.

That’s what I was thinking, be interested to see what teams are best placed with players going, my Leicester friend said they only have about 2-3 going he thinks.

They may have been an issue and I expected we may go relatively strong just because it’s better to do it in this game rather than the first league game back so the rust can be shaken off.

More disappointed on the Madrid draw than this as I can see upsides on this one.

It really isn’t. A Gillingham type team against which the youngsters could have gained more valuable experience would have been much better.

Considering the way some of our players play after a 10 day rest I was hoping Klopp would play if not all of the senior players not going anyhow.

Turn up to Villa like pre season and it could go terribly wrong.

I have no doubt Klopp will field a strong side (the best possible except for the WC players) after a month-long rest. It is also good for those to get some minutes before the Villa game.

It’s why it’s good to have these games rather than binning off competitions as some would like.
Can give opportunites to youth players, minutes for players coming back from injury, time on the pitch for fringe players etc.

Felt like I’m neglecting this thread

Fuck them. Of course they make us play on Thursday.

Gives City the chance to include more players who return from the World Cup and also will hurt us for the PL game at the weekend.

What’s the issue with playing on 22nd then 26th?
