England National Team

that was the ENG approach for the last 20min of the game, long balls up to Kane. He was completely ineffective and couldn’t win a 50/50 to save his life. He’s not a target man, at all.

Was disappointing to see that ENG couldn’t pass their way up the pitch without losing possession. just too slow on the ball.

Kane was not in the other end of the pitch! Look at his average position, he was playing as a DM. Heck, there was one sequence where he had the ball and was looking to lump it long…presumably to himself?

England barely tried to keep possession, they were lumping it up to the last Argentina defender, only occasionally bothering to play it wide. I can only really recall that one run by Rogers where he took a silly shot far too soon.

I know, it was terrible strategy by Tuchel.

It’s been a common factor with Kane’s game often dropping deep when his team is under pressure. In someways admirable but other times frustrating.

Its become a common feature in his game full stop and is one of the things that, when it’s functioning, really elevated his game. I think the issue for England is that everyone else drops in as well. You ended up with Gordon playing as an auxilary LB rather than being the out ball and that got even worse with the subs. At that point you need to either explicitly tell him he has stay up and fight for balls or get him off and bring on Watkins

Screw this.

He is no martyr.

As @Limiescouse said. If Gordon is so deep haul him off and get either Watkins of Toney to fight fit balls. You do t even need creativity. I’d have put both of them on and they’d have battered their geriatric centre backs. It’s a monumental fuckip by Tuchel.

I saw Souness say that Rice isn´t world class and maybe even should be a CB.

I´m inclined to agree on the first part. He´s a good player but he´s not exceptional at much. He´s not particularly impressive on the ball, pulling the strings or creating and he´s not some beast winning it back. All rounder, pretty solid defensive and decent on the ball, but world class? Even in a time when I think excellent midfielders are very few and far between.

Ok, I give up and will sing to the commonly admitted tune from now on:

This England team is poor. All other England teams since 1966 have been as well. Tuchel is shite, sack him. Kane is over the hill, fuck him off. The rest are primadonnas who can’t even hold their own in the last twenty minutes of a World Cup semifinal against this poor Argentina side. Fuck them all.

Germany wins a major trophy more or less every ten years. You really think we had the biggest talents compared to other nations before those tournaments?

I agree that the current squad is mediocre but the young players coming through are still Top4 in world football and that should be more than enough to compete - especially with Klopp in charge.

In the past you did. You had some great players up until the late 2010s or something. A lot of not flashy but really strong effective players.

I like Wirtz but what you have now isn’t even close unfortunately.

Absolutely no one looked at early 2000s Germany and said ‘Boy, this German team really got loads of talent or great players.’

Also didn’t win anything

Got comfortably beaten in the final. More comfortably than England were beaten by Brazil in the quarters

Though they did have ballack and the injured deisler who was very talented. Very solid players like didi, klose, Jeremies and linke, like I said

Well, exactly. Barely won against mid teams, lost against the first big one in 2002. Kinda like England. Germany were also absolute dogshit in 2000 and not much better in 2004. So this is not the first talent drought.
The point is, predictions based on the state of now are pretty useless in international football. And even then a pretty average team can still make it to the final. Unless you’re England, of course.

But Germany never thinks they are gping to win the tournament and start planning their route to the final before a ball has been kicked…

England on the other hand …
