I remember taking an afternoon off school to watch England in a rare televized midweek day game. It would have probably been qualifying for Euro 88 or Italia 90.
If I had nothing to do and you put me in front of the tv with only one channel that was showing one of these game I’d probably try to take a nap.

International football, pah! Apart from tournament time, it is a meaningless distraction if you are heart deep in following a top club side. I will make an exception for the tourney time, do or die in the rounds getting nearer to the prize - yes, that quickens the pulse.
But all the layers of crap they squish into the schedule is a distraction and a detraction. Careful thought needs to be given to reducing the amount of games and the amount of semi-meaningless games. But given the imperative to make more money, it won’t happen until football has its reckoning, and that day is getting closer.
Presumably England have brought Tuchel in at great expense to win the World Cup or the Euros and take it further than Southgate. Let’s see what he can do.
As for the group stage, it is pointless. My dog could manage the England side to qualification against those opponents.

This is a big part of what makes it bad now. He has brought in to improve on Southgate’s impressive tournament record. He has 1 cycle to do it. Yet the challenges of qualifying, which a bunch of teams this shit, are completely different from what it will take to achieve his objectives. He and the players will learn absolutely nothing from these qualifiers
