I did, but I disagree! Southgate has been trying to build a pragmatic England side for years. I’m hoping it has worked!
Purely from an England point of view, I wouldn’t want him starting. He looked rusty and the midfield was definitely not as effective when he came on in the second half against the Czechs. Start with Phillips.

I normally hate the idea of switching shape just because the opponent has that shape. But this German side has looked pretty porous at the back and so maybe all you need to get at them is a bit of pace in behind and so worrying about build up through the midfield is unneccessary.
Yeah, form players. I agree that Henderson has not been at his best form lately so I don’t get some of the criticism of Southgate that I have read here.
Southgate is the first manager for England that has created a team that has excited me and made me think that they could perhaps reach a semi-final for once, for decades. Because his is a team, and not the usual bunch of brilliant individuals thrown together haphazardly simply because they are brilliant players (who may not fit well together).
I am hoping for a German win, but this is certainly the first time in many years I think England has a sporting chance. I fear you guys will sack Southgate if they lose tonight though, which imo would be a major mistake considering the team and the team spirit he has created.
