He would have been anyway. He’s just been the number one trend on twitter because he drank a bottle of water.

Unreal. That’s offside. Is it not?

best bit of play all game. Hungry has quit, that probably helps.

Hartson arse licking Ronaldo.

It’s nip and tuck but yeah didn’t show a replay that I could see it on.

Yeah, it is a cup, so a lot of strange things happens. I agree that Portugal has not been overall the best team when they won it (far from it I thought). Otto Reihagel’s (hope I remember his name correctly) won with Hellas with super primitive football without having been the best team in that competition, so it is not that unusual that an inferior team wins a cup per see.
But that’s the charm as well, teams like Hellas winning that is. Personally I LOVED it when Hellas won, although I know that many were really annoyed due to how primitive they were. But to me, that’s magic and why football is a great game (that an inferior team can win and so on).
Part of the charm to see brilliant players and teams be put to the sword by mere savage primitives  I remember cheering on the Hoplite underdogs like mad !

Still a lot of work to do on offsides if VAR is to work.

  1. Someone is going to get injured playing on when clearly offside because the linesman isn’t trusted to make decisions anymore.
  2. They’ve gone from “We are literally going to show you how we draw lines in the wrong places and then come to bad decisions because of it” to “We aren’t going to show you a replay where you could possibly see the decision. Trust us bro, we’ll get it right”.

Hungary-Portugal 0-3 :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s 4 points in this group, huge!

Quite a scene with the Hungarian players thanking the fans.

It was harsh for the Hungarians.

Just saw the goals from this match…surely the third was offside. Every view I saw had Ronnie a mile off and so Im wondering what Im missing.

I rewatched the goal again…Hungary #21, Endre Botka played CR7 onside.

(Sorry about the picture quality, just snapped the pictures from my TV used my phone camera.)
Just before Rafa Silva (#15) released the ball to CR7 - onside

Ball left Rafa Silva’s feet, CR7 still onside (at least it appears so in my view)

Really weird game, considering the final result.

There is nothing wrong with the final result. Jota (what a poor game he had) and Ronaldo should have finished them off in the first half.

England will begin their delayed Euro 2021 campaign with a rematch of the 2018 World Cup semi-final against Croatia at Wembley. Gareth Southgate’s men lost that match in heart-breaking fashion with Mario Mandzukic scoring in extra time, despite England going 1-0 up. It is not the first time Croatia have been a painful thorn in the side of England. Croatia prevented England from qualifying for Euro 2008, after a disastrous campaign under Steve McClaren culminated in a 3-2 loss.

Since that fateful summer night in Russia three years ago, the two countries have met twice in the UEFA Nations League, again in 2018. They drew 0-0 Rijeka before England scored some semblance of revenge with a 2-1 win at Wembley. Jesse Lingard and Harry Kane both scored in the final 15 minutes to pull off the comeback.

It is hoped that there will be some fans in attendance at Wembley, as test events in the FA Cup will determine the feasibility of hosting fans at this summer’s tournament. Boris Johnson has suggested he would like to see Wembley full “to capacity” for the final on July 11.

The hype behind this is setting it up eithier for a bore draw or a narrow loss or win.

DANNY MURPHY: Declan Rice can be as influential for England as N’Golo Kante is for Chelsea… he may just be the MOST important player for them at Euro 2020

Headlines / Comments like this remind me that England will bottle it. Too much pressure / expectations from media and especially pundits.

That pressure is similar to our expectations of Toronto Maple Leafs…“This is going to be our year” they say…but each time the Leafs just bottled it in the early rounds of the playoffs. The Leafs hasn’t won the Stanley Cup for 55 years and counting.

Modric knows what’s on. Doesn’t bode well for England.
