England bringing on a 17-years old for the final ten minutes. Hopefully Croatia will make the most of it! :crossed_fingers:t2:

It is too pedestrian from Croatia. Still have not woken up for the match, and it is already 85th minutes.

Love the confidence to take Kane off for a 17 yr old

Kane is the poster boy for been a flat track bully. Scores shed loads against nobody’s put him up against someone decent and he becomes Harry Potter with his invisibility cloak on.

Statistically a very even match, but Croatia have never looked fully in this.

I like the looks of Caleta-Car. A good young defender there.

Well… it looks like the c*nts who whistled their side for taking the knee will be on the winning side. A blatant shame…

In my mind I have relegated Croatia from a dark destrier to a Shetland’s Pony. Genuinely surprised that they have not been able to get more play out of England’s lower tempo.

England meanwhile, I am impressed by Southgate tactically. I like his press and formation looks very solid. Southgate can’t score for his boys though. I also like how he subs on a lightening player for the final 15. Brave, but also logical given how the game plays out now.

So yeah, I probably think he is more skilled manager than many here.

Of course, Croatia may still score. But they have thus far been unable to get through England’s solid defensive line.

Heard only cheers today, but doesn’t really make up for boos in two lead in games.

Just watched last 20 mins but can’t believe how flat Croatia are. I tipped 1-1 and they are letting me down, fuckers!

I heard some. A minority of course, but I’d have loved to see them on the losing side today.

Definitely was boos at the start. The non-arsehole portion of the crowd did well to cheer over them.

Other than good intensity from England in the first 10-15 minutes, this match was a massive disappointment. There was no fight from Croatia. England was not as mighty as the press would have you believe.

Well, I’d say that was a pretty good performance from England. Looked solid in defence and weren’t really troubled throughout the game, don’t remember Pickford having to make a save. The midfield three looked good, Phillips in particular. I guess they’d want to be better in attack, other than the runs Sterling was making and the early Foden shot there wasn’t much creativity.

Well, victory was well deserved. England opened up with a blitz, an impressive one as well, Croatia held on and I thought they would come into the game then. They didn’t, England controlled them well, Croatia made many surprising technical errors, many dangerous side ways passes that almost resulted in lethal English counters. Surprising. Lack of aggression from Croatia also surprising in an opening game.

This was good by Southgate’s team. His team selection also proved correct, both flanks were very good, and in the middle they negated Croatia. The English press was impressive, you could see what Southgate was trying to do.

Even so, Italy was better. But today, I say well done to England, a well deserved victory today.

Congratulations to you English guys

Croatia were crap up top in all honesty.

Will have to do better and I can’t see them scoring against a more disciplined Scottish side.

Dunno what the Czechs are like but they can’t be any worse than that.

Over reliance on a 35 year old it felt like. Glad Sterling scored and those who booed the knee should be ashamed for celebrating him scoring

Yeah, England missed some extra omph offensive creativity, but I think Southgate prioritised control and balance, and I don’t blame him. 3 points is just very important.

Leeds United. IMO Klopp and Edwards should monitor his performance during this Euro. If England reaches deep and him being a major factor, definitely should be considered.

So, that’s England’s first win in an opening game of a tournament since fuck knows how long.

Croatia weren’t as strong as I expected them to be. Under the cosh for too much time against a team which isn’t that great to be fair. It’s a bit of a shame to not see them trying to provoke Pickford into one of his trademark errors. Also, the defence should have been challenged far more, as they are injury prone too. Maybe they were hoping for a 0-0. In that case, they clearly weren’t ambitious enough, considering their potential.

Anyway, we’ll see now the usual circus of the English media and fans mounting the pressure on their lads by seeing them as European champions. That will inevitably lead to too much pressure for them, and to their crumbling against a good team at some point, in a crunch match. Possibly on penalties, against a team which uses to play in white too… ;-).
