We had better results with Phillips / Williams than we did when we had kabak at the field
I thought Kabak did OK, actually. He was playing out of position, much more front foot than used to, for a team in crisis. The problem was our defence was getting injured like they were picking up a virus.
Arthur was never going to work out, but you can see the attraction. Isnât he still like the fifth most expensive midfielder in history or something?
And the pay package we offered to Davies had nothing to do with it ?
I was just pointing out your error re. Davies being a LFC player, not loaned in - didnât say otherwise. They get paid a wage whether loaned or bought.

High risk, potentially high return. It is silly to bleat about needing to learn lessons, he was a comparatively low value punt after the strategy broke down. An organization that treats every gamble as a terrible error will be doomed to mediocrity unless it has more resources than anyone else. We donât. If you want scouts to tell you that you need to buy Bellingham, and negotiators that tell you we cannot afford him, well, that is not hard to find.
Still remember some people wishing that we made the Kabak loan into a permanent moveâŚ
I wouldnât have minded it to this day, thought he had some great games for usâŚArsenal at home, the Leipzig tie in the CL along with some other solid games.
As someone who wouldâve come in as a 4th option for 9m, why not?
Because heâs not good enough.

I was up for that too. The price went down to about ÂŁ5m in the end, didnât it?
By the end of that window we had Van Dijk, Konate, Matip and Gomez, so would have been fifth choice. He hasnât gone on to anything special and the last time I heard of him he was being relegated with Norwich. So maybe for the best, but I still think he did OK with us.
As a 4th choice? Based on what exactlyâŚconsidering he helped us get 4th. He was 20/21 at the time partnered next to a very inexperienced CB.
Yeah, I meant overall. Regardless of the price we had to pay to get him and that he would âstartâ as 4th choice. Not enough for me.
& I thought I was greedy.
I understand sometimes there are deals that are worth going for when we look at potential and a certain price. Not a big risk, certain potential, if it doesnât work out still probably get a profit.
Transfers like Minamino, Carvalho. But for Kabak I just didnât see it. Not exactly peanuts and we needed someone who would soon challenge players ahead of that 4th spot role. Which is what Konate did. Easy for us fans to say often âthrow this amont on that player, why not, heâs not badâ. Weâd probably end up having 50 seniors on a pile and not know what to do with it. But we need to have certain standards. It should be difficult to find players for Liverpool, that means weâre doing superb.
Back to Arthur, I donât mind loans by default. Naturally, looking at the football foodchain, when Liverpool are doing well, we donât really need loans in.
But thereâs been (and will be) difficult seasons when I thought we could do it more. Also involve certain options, clauses, etc. Anelka springs to mind, a player who can come here, do well, get a better feel what Liverpool is about and we can have a better chance of signing him permanently (in this case which we unfortunately didnât).
Sometimes it doesnât work out due to different reasons. There was nothing particularly wrong with a player like Sahin, but Rodgersâ positional use of him was terrible.

and yet many people were saying the same things about Sahin. In Arthurâs case, it didnât work out. By the time he was able to step in, the need was no longer as pressing.
You also have to remember Fabinho returned from injury in that run in as I remember some suggesting he would head back into the defence and yet Klopp stuck with Williams instead and played Fabinho further forward.
Results had been ok in the 4 matches prior to Kabakâs injury with 3 wins and 2 draws.
Everyone says the last 10 games but Kabak played 5 of them.
He could have gone to Saudi Arabia.
how does THIS guy have his own thread. wow
Every senior players have their own thread.

Every senior players have their own thread.
using that term loosely, in this fellaâs situation. thereâs a whole thread for former managers / players that would be more suited to a guy who played 13min for us
It was converted from the in-season player thread, which every player gets.
