Just a reminder that Xabi took over Leverkusen in October when their were 17th in the league and they finished 6th.
If Xabi comes in…
I know he prefers some kind of of back 3/5 but he’s not limited to it.
With the squad we have today it might be what we need to save our season. Would use Endo and Robbo as options for the back3.
Personally I would always prefer a 4-3-3 so I hope we will bring in two wide attackers in the summer.
Was that a long term preference or just something he brought in because of the players he initially had? I thought he switched to a back four in his last season in Germany?
I think a back 3 could work here but would be worried by the shortage of CBs - but perhaps it is possible that temporary options you suggest such as Robbo and Endo could do a job, particularly if it helps get the best out of our wingbacks and forward players.
It might also help solve the conundrum of how to get Isak, Ekitike and Wirtz playing together when all are fit.

Xabi Alonso ya ha recibido la primera llamada desde Liverpool - AS.com
Fair play? AI shit. Honestly, it’s a plague on modern life.
So Xabi wants to be the manager and not the head coach. ![]()
That is spooky.
AI messes with your head!
Would be madness if the board are not sounding out Xabi to replace Slot. Would be nice to have him as soon as possible because I believe he would get us CL football for next season. 100% sure Slot will fail to qualify for CL.
Don’t know if they are do we…I doubt they would make it public via there usual channels and I don’t think anyone on Alonso’s side would put anything out.
If one of the usual say we are considering it, then it will be likely it’s about to happen.
If Xabi takes over here this summer, I think he would keep a back 4.
From what I’ve seen and heard, he’s not necessarily stuck with the idea 3/5 at the back. And no, I don’t think having Frimpong and Wirtz would be enough to change it “like it was at Leverkusen”. Leverkusen is one example from the past, this would be Liverpool is another example in the present and future.
The games’ principles and what we do in all phases of the game is more important anyway. In possession, out of possession, offensive transition, defensive transition, set-pieces. Formation is important, but it’s not the most important.
Then, whover is here next season, Slot, Alonso or someone never even mentioned yet, we will have question to solve, probably again both in offices and on the pitch, how to make it work.
Similarly on this topic with coaches, formations and perceptions of it, Glasner gave an interview a few months ago in which he said that actually his most preferable formation is actually 4 at the back and a zonal 4-4-2 shape, not 3/5 at the back. That his teams have played different kind of formations and structures. And showed how in 1-2 very basic movements, it can quickly change in a matter of seconds. People are sometimes so interested in these topics, but don’t put an effort in to hear from the main characters and research to realize that the truth is a bit different.
Xabi’s formation at Leverkusen, when it was 3/5 at the back, was pretty asymmetrical anyway. The way Frimpong was positioned (very high, basically the zone of Salah at Liverpool) and played was very different to how Grimaldo was positioned and played (more of a playmaking wing back, with his skills).
It could happen when top 5 is not possible anymore or not until the end of the season.
It’s probably more likely if I am honest.
He is entirely welcome🙏🏻
Still like it though😂
I feel sad saying it, but I’m hoping for some positive news on Monday.
What’s on Monday, something from those attention seeking clowns?

I thought this video from Adam Clery was interesting, and makes me feel even better about the idea of Xabi coming here.
Yeah, chatting to my mates about that video last as they were unsure about Xabi and getting his teams to press
