Ex-player: Xabi Alonso

I doubt he would take over City, but my concern would be if Pep goes, they could look to Kompany, which would then bring Bayern into the mix as they are 1 of the 3 clubs he negotiated a release clause into his B.L contract

Here’s another take to add to his options.

If Kompany wins Bayern a historic treble (treble) then why would Bayern part with their coach who is only 2 years into his 3 year contract? More likely to get a significant extension to keep the likes of Real and City’s paws off of him.

If Pep wins city the domestic treble? Has he done enough and got bored of winning … I mean cheating?

I doubt Bayern are looking at a free agent Alonso now. And I doubt Real and City are going to buy out Kompany’s final contracted year as that could be astronomically expensive.

His options left are more than likely Liverpool priority and if that doesn’t materialise then he sells his soul to cheating fc should they change things this summer?

That is certainly possible.

Kompany would be mad imo to leave the trophy laden bully boy German gravy train. He is still relatively new at the job so may as well keep racking up the trophies while he can.

At City it would be harder…unless in Div 2.

You all know that Kompany’s contract has already been extended, right? He recently signed for another two years (until 2029).

Oops  - Alonso to Chelsea then

Seriously though, he’s probably got a better chance of arriving November/December time if things get worse? And probably worth waiting for instead of taking on a job at these classless clubs in the premier league.

I expect Kompany will be fired before then.

Kompany and Bayern won’t part ways this summer. And if I was Kompany or Xabi I’d be very reluctant to be the man that follows Pep and his era of success.

You’d essentially be City’s version of Moyes where the only trajectory really is a downward one. And let’s not forget Xabi has one “failed” stint at an elite club under his belt already. Have the same again and that’s probably his career and the top of the managerial tree done for.

Also why anyone would go their with those charges hanging over their heads is beyond me. You’re essentially rolling the dice and hoping nothing comes of it. Or you’ve a cast iron clause to get out but I doubt City even negotiate on that.

Doesn’t mean it would not still happen, just that City would need to pay a higher release fee for him

If Xabi went to Chelsea then we’d know he was never suitable for us. Going to that joke of a club would be desperate for some one of Xabi’s standing

Agreed. Unless Liverpool have given him a clear message that they won’t appoint him in any case (unlikely), I can’t see him going there right now.

Yeah, timing is critical in these things and so there is a sense that Alonso cannot be expected to wait if we fail to move on Slot quickly enough, but Chelsea should be no where any list of alternative options. No manager with any near term expectations of landing one of the top jobs should go anywhere near Chelsea.

ooh, I don’t know. It should mean he is back on the market when Arne is

Don’t panic. The next Chelsea manager won’t last long, no matter who it is

I’m not sure that he would reject it. He did take the Madrid job after all, knowing full well how easily it could go wrong. He has that experience to lean on, and he’d back himself to succeed almost anywhere like any top professional.

It would definitely be the wrong move for him, but there’s no guarantee that that’s the way he sees it himself, especially since FSG seem keen to stick with Slot hoping that his limitations magically go away.

Ha true, but Xabi has got out of the Real fiasco relatively unscathed with the blame largely placed on the club for creating a situation where no manager can thrive, but you rarely if ever get two such get out of jail cards. Even without consideration of wanting him here, he has to pick his next job very carefully or face entering Rafa territory where question marks over his bad choice of jobs bleeds into question marks about his overall decision making

If you are a young manager at a stage in your career where you can take a 12 month sidestep and have loads of career left, then the Chelsea job is a gift.

Including the inevitable payoff, I think you’re talking about 10m quid for a years work and nobody thinks any the less of you.

I can’t imagine him taking the Chelsea job and trying to navigate the same egos that ultimately tanked his predecessors.

I think he either waits for us or goes back to Germany.

Two early sackings could be an issue for him.

lets face it, its as @Mascot says…managing Chelsea is 12 months work for 6 years pay…hard to turn down…albeit for someone like Alonso it wouldnt be good career progression…
