Ex-player: Xabi Alonso

Says who?

I am not sure if Xabi can bring back the style of football that we saw last season…

IMO we should wait for Nagelsmann.

Various dubious online “sources”.

Xabi, Iraola, Cesc, Silva etc etc so insert new name each day. Believe whatever but we may as well speculate.

It’s happening!

Possibly.

Liverpool have spoken to Real Madrid about Xabi Alonso’s brief tenure with the Spanish club as they consider whether their former midfielder is a future managerial candidate. (AS - in Spanish)

Sorry why would we be talking to Real about Xabi? Is he on some sort of gardening leave?

Bit like asking for a reference, why wouldn’t they?

I was once asked to provide a reference for someone that we had to let go because of his inability to get on with one of the other employees. I wasn’t sure what to put on it. “Very punctual, doesn’t like Jews” seemed to be a bit on the nose.

You had Reinhart Heydrich work under you and you still live after dismissing him years ago ? Impressive.

(for those that don’t know: He was famous for his high intelligence, arrogance, ruthlessness/lack of mercy, but also his extreme punctuality that he took so much pride in and that helped assassinate him in the end).

If he chooses Chelsea of all clubs as his next destination, then he really doesn’t deserve any better than that (and certainly not the Liverpool job). Same applies to Iraola - or any other talented young manager our there.

Apparently Iraola is their favoured candidate.

I find that really odd, perhaps Alonso has put it out there.

Just looked at the market apparently Alonso is 4/11 to be out next manager and 4/11 to be Chelsea’s manager on the first day of next Season.

Do they expect he will be sacked within 3 months?

Or more likely his agent, which would suggest that we haven’t agreed anything with him yet.

Did Alonso have input on transfers at Leverkusen? I know he asked for Zubimendi at RM and they ignored him so maybe that’s why it’s a no go for Edwards.

Why would that be a no go for Edwards? Alonso was perfectly willing to work with the transfers that Real Madrid did make. Hughes also tried signing Zubimendi when Arne asked him to.

I have no problem with Alonso going to Chelsea if we stick with Arne. That’s our club’s fault.

Just something I read on another forum.

Let’s wait and see what happens if we have secured CL football for next season and then let’s wait and see what happens when the season is over.

Doubt the Alonsos and Iraolas and Glasners will make a decision before that.

Posted in the arne thread as well; ornstein says Xabi not under consideration. Plan is to reinforce the wings with arne staying on

May need to reinforce everywhere else too, including the assistant coach, if we’re keeping Arne.

I should have picked my words better - it wasn’t my intent to criticise Alonso because of his possible snub to Liverpool but because I can’t understand why a really talented, young head coach/manager, who is also looking to bounce back after an impossible spell at Real Madrid, would choose Chelsea, a club that is a mess from top to bottom and where the head coach/manager is the one who gets blamed for everything.
