Expectations for the season

just to play good football and see where it takes us. Will be interesting to see how the world cup affects the domestic season.

Us playing good football isn’t an expectation, It’s a given.

In Danger?

We could finish where Everton finished last season and in my eyes it’d still very much be a successful era.

Ok we lost but getting to all those finals we did is still something we can hold in high regard when you take into account we really had no right to be there.

  • CL and PL will be our targets and my expectation is that we win at least one of them.
  • At least one domestic cup final
  • Salah to win golden boot
  • Alison to win golden glove
  • Salah to also get most assists
  • I expect to see Elliot feature quite a bit more
  • Nunez to be slowly bought into the starting 11, Jota or Bobby will start to begin with
  • Trent to play slightly deeper more often

Be great to win another PL title while Klopp is in charge.

Hopefully the Prem title. We have been so close on two occasions under Jurgen, in addition to the season we won it. We have amazing depth and quality all over the park. I don’t expect to win the title, as such, but I do expect a very strong challenge, minimum, and then hopefully we prevail.

CL is a tricky one. I expect a good showing, which for us means minimum QF, but could easily mean we win it.

Domestic cups were lovely last season. I wanted silverware like all reds. On reflection, the extra games possibly took a little out of the tank for the run on the bigger prizes, but it would be impossible to prove. The depth and quality we have means we can go for all four and see what happens.

Elliott will become more of a player for us and will hold his own in midfield. We will see more of him and it will augur well for the years to come.

Nunez will be eased in, and it might need a bit of work until he gels with the other forwards and hunts in a pack, rather than the one man killing machine we saw at Benfica. Then again, he might hit the ground running and score a goal a game, or near as dammit, and we won’t look back.

Diaz to weigh in with more goals and become a fixture in the side.

Carvalho to surprise with his speed, fast feet, intelligent movement, and incisive passing. I think I said that in 3 years time we will look at Carvalho, Diaz and Nunez and not be able to tell who cost €10M, €40M and €100M as between the trio we will easily have €300M worth.

Can’t wait to do it all again.

sorry for not being so self entitled my friend. I will behave more like a “football began in 1992” Manchester Reds Fan in future.

Kind Regards,

Mr A Hole

Our level the last five years is much better than 1 PL and 1 CL and these are what we will ultimately be judged on - so to ensure we are given the respect and kudos this team deserves we need to win the PL or CL this season. Really want to see us start all guns blazing in the PL and win say 10 on the trot and really distance cheaty like we did in 19-20

As long the injury monster keeps hitting us no realistic expectations can be made.

I struggle a bit with the word “expectations” as it might sound a little entitled.

Still, in the spirit in which I think it is meant, I do not expect a title challenge this season. We are in a season of transition, as the strikers are being overhauled (Mane out, Diaz and Nunez in) and the midfield is at sixes and sevens in terms of fitness and availability, and as a group, the midfield has also got a bit too old. It needs to be refreshed, and I’m sure it will be as a few drop off the books.

We started the season in a funk, after the disappointment of going so close to immortality. The shortened break due to the mid season World Cup didn’t help either. Then we have been very unlucky with injuries.

So I don’t see a title challenge, but the win against Man City was a welcome reminder that even though we have issues, we are still a bloody good outfit.

I hope for top four, and that in the games between now and the World Cup break we close the gap down so it looks very doable for the second half of the season.

Beyond that, I expect us to qualify for the CL knockout stages, when frankly, anything can happen. We know that competition and like it. It has been kind to us over the years too.

If a depleted side, looking way past its best and shipping goals and points to just about everyone in the Premier League, can beat Man City in such a disciplined and hard fought game, where we were tactically excellent, then I am prepared to carry hope that we might actually be in with a shout of winning the CL. Mad, I know. But it is possible.

So, expectations:

  • Top four in Prem
  • Good run in CL to latter stages, with the dream being that we actually win the bugger again.

Domestic cups, hard to say. Depends on squad and draw, but it would be nice to win the FA Cup again.

We aren’t winning the Premier League. Not because we aren’t good enough, but because it isn’t a level playing field.

I’d like to see us atone for that disappointment in Paris and successfully defend st least one of the domestic cups.

I can’t see us taking the domestic cups seriously unless we get to the semifinals. The effort expended on them last season cost us in the league and CL.
Our number one priority has to be top four. Presuming we qualify for the knock out stage of the CL, just hope we can add another couple of classic Anfield European nights to the list.
Really hope we have a fit squad for the second half of the season.

Referees’ decisions cost us the league; our own inept finishing cost us in Paris.

Of course there wasn’t only one reason, but fatigue was definitely a factor.

Good long term signing in midfielders and make a bid for top 4.

One cup might be nice though especially if there are some easy draws for us till the semis.

More of a pipe dream.

After the start we had, winning either the league or FA Cup and making top 4 would be very satisfying.
