Expectations for the season

I like the Anfield Wrap’s content (even though I don’t watch all of it), but not all of them there. Neil Atkinson is my favourite, he can be objective enough and really quality. Roberts was good, but he’s no longer there (that said, he’s best among fans when he appears on the Sky Overlap thing). The rest are so-so, sometimes childishly too subjective.

Hopefully avoid relegation. I don’t see where the next win is coming from. We’ve already been pummelled by one of the candidates and we face another 2 in the next 3 games.

Sorry for “bedwetting” as some would suggest it is but we are that bad.

We (or some) didn’t see it either before we beat Villa and Real.

The next three league games will decide if we really are that bad now. Lose any of them and I think Slot should either quit or be sacked. If we can’t avoid defeat in all three of those games then that is relegation form, which would be unbelievable and unforgivable.

Not that merely avoiding relegation is my goal for the season. Qualifying for the CL is still entirely possible with the players we have.

Expectations for me depend on what happens next. I see no reason to think Slot will be able to change our fortunes dramatically (I hope I’m wrong, I hate the thought of sacking a manager who won us the league, but it is what it is at this point).
If he magically gets the boys firing again or we sack him and get a new gaffer who hits the ground running then we need to be finishing in the top 3. We are only 4 points off 3rd currently and although it will likely meaning winning most of our games, others will also drop points, so it’s really not as crazy as it sounds currently. But it has to change now, not in 2 or 3 games time. By then we could be 9 or 10 points off 4th and then we’re fucked!
If we carry on like this and the owners don’t act now then I expect us to be well down in the bottom half. Currently relegation form, but I don’t see that happening. (but, fuck me…I can’t believe it’s a possibility, but it really isn’t too crazy a proposition at the moment :exploding_head:)

If he quit, he would never get another managerial job again. I understand what you saying thou, tell the management “I quite”, please fire me.

Why?

He would never get a job other than Everton.

Pretty sure it doesn’t matter that much if Slot gets the sack or quits.

I’m sure he would attract a competitive team post-Liverpool if it happens soon.

I cant see any serious club hiring someone that quits. Leaves by mutual consent?, yes, fired?, yes, Quitter, No!

He most probably won’t quit anyway, but there can be many reasons for quitting.

Wouldn’t mean he’s a quitter by nature or a bad coach that cannot get a job anymore, if this remains being one and a half or two season at Liverpool.

Yes and no.

If he were to quit, then I doubt he would get too many English clubs offering him a job.

But I doubt it would affect his standing elsewhere in the world - Spain and Germany might be a struggle, but I think majority of clubs around the world wouln’t particularly care.

There might be a vacancy at Ajax. He could have Hetinga as his deputy again!

One of the things Klopp did well was when his team had a poor season, he would manage to right the ship before season’s end, so that he could use that as a springboard for the following season.

That’s all I want from this season. I want us to reach a point where we can string a few wins and maybe even clean sheets(!!) together so that we can use that to fire us into 26/27.

I’m not sure Slot can afford to not at least reach that sort of target.

The difference between getting sacked or quitting would mostly be the financial implications. If he is sacked there will be payoff terms within the contract. If he quits, it is likely there won’t be. Quitting would thus be a bad move.

Beyond that, future prospective employers would potentially frown on quitting, as they would want to see how Slot handled adverse circumstances. Taking this Liverpool side to the bottom half of the Prem and then leaving of your own accord would not look good.

Fighting on, and then getting sacked, still wouldn’t be great, but at least you could show that you were trying your utmost to turn it around, that you still had belief that you could, but unfortunately your employer sacked you.

If Slot does get sacked he is a young man with plenty of scope for years in the game. I would have thought another Eredivisie job would be on the cards, and then depending on how that goes other opportunities would open up.

But I’m hoping he turns it around at Liverpool.

I hope he can turn things around. The question is - how does he go about doing this? At this moment I’d settle for top 4, but on current form that’s a big ask. At the very least I want us to stop conceding easy goals and show a bit of fight. Doesn’t have to be pretty. Just be hard to beat.

By work in training and matches.

It is a good question what and how much can be changed in the middle of a season, with limited training time.

And how much damage will the club tolerate in terms of deciding whether he’s still the right man or it comes to a point where we need a change (and then the question who would be the new man).

Wasn’t sure where to put this, but listening to Mane talk about his relationship with Robbo and Trent’s with Mo. Makes me think about what we had and how hard that is to replicate. It clearly took time but also was stars aligning. We are so so far away from that now

so basically what i said
