Expectations for the season

I think we will get far in CL and FA Cup - might even reach a final but can’t see us winning it.

But it’s obvious that we can not cope with playing twice a week for too often. We’ll see more injuries, players out of form and fatigue.

So we will drop many more points.

Missing out of CL scares the shit out of me.

So it should…

None of that article particularly worries me though, we are well run financially and we cut the cloth accordingly. This is ultimately what I think will decide Slot’s fate. If he qualified he would probably stay even if they are leaning towards the sack because they have that one season buffer. If they don’t I can’t expect they will see how it goes because they can’t really afford to start another season like under Brendan.

If he starts demanding new tools he will be out of the door, especially if he has had some.

Some new tools will be needed, regardless who is the coach. The club is surely well aware of that. We already bought one, possibly without knowing who will be the coach next season. Last summer’s net spend doesn’t mean we can now relax for one year, especially since we haven’t reached the balance needed and some players might leave.

I said that though. It’s the demand for new ones on top of what is bought that ended Rodgers

Win the PL, CL and FA Cup.

Just CL. Then new manager. Then move on.

From champions to this. Reset.

‘Just’ the trophy we’ve only won six times in our history. Then new manager?

Is this 2004?

autocorrect. Fixed

Forget CL, forget FAC.
Scrap like fuck for 5th place.

Yes.
Because we have no choice. We have to forget what we cannot achieve

We’re only one goal down from the first leg? I’m not sure I see the reason for all the negativity…

I’ll find a link to today’s game for you :squinting_face_with_tongue:

Maybe it’s just me, but I find I often tend to see us not playing as badly as described, nor as well as described. I thought the first half was okay, especially the way we started the game, with sloppiness the only problem. But after that we just fell apart.

Trouble with this team I feel is that they’re on the edge mentally, so if we’re not doing well then we fall apart, but if we can hold on and get a decent start we usually do better.

I think they are on the edge mentally, because they don’t trust the tactics or the setup

It does seem to be an issue of mentality, given that most of these players were winning champions medals less than a year ago.
There must be friction there, given the regular moans of Virgil (and others) as well as Mo’s quite extraordinary outburst, and probably a lack of trust or belief, as mentioned above.
The turnover of players doesn’t really explain it, nor does the tragic death of Diogo and his brother, although each must have played some part. Anyway, the team has been quite consistent in its inconsistency and, again, can this be solely down to Arne and his coaches?

My expectations have fallen off a cliff and I’m not sure what we can achieve from here. In the words of the song, “The hour is getting late” and there’s hardly time to build up a head of steam now. Maybe 5th, if we’re slightly less bad than others? CL…? You must be joking. FAC? Not even that, I reckon. The players seem to have mentally checked out and just going through the motions. There seems little heart or spirit, and even less fight, in this team; the same guys who practically walked the title last year.

Is there still anyone in here having expectations? I for one have written them all off since long. Still being in the fight for a CL place next season is already a pleasant surprise for me, given our terrible inconsistency in results and performances.

At some point in the season (already long ago, must have been after the Leeds away game), I expected us to improve towards the end of the season, and then, who knows what could have happened. But since then, let’s be blunt, we haven’t seen any improvement at all.

I still maintain that injuries have cost us dearly this season, people tend to underestimate the impact of them, but we should still do better than what is on display.
