Saw that Burnley lost to Preston 3-0, and immediately thought that Trafford’s streak of clean sheets was ended. Then looked at the lineup, and he wasn’t in goal.
Mateta has been hospitalized as a result. Likely a precaution, but while standing completely upright (i.e. not putting his head down into a boot) he got kicked in the head by someone who sprinted 10 yards to do it to him. Even the idea that goalie “might have got a touch on the ball” is irrelevant if you kick it in a way that results in kicking a 6 foot tall person in the head.
No games this weekend. We got a nice, little break before the QSG game.
Troy Deeney on the Palace game:
“It was a good FA Cup tie and a good advert for English football.”
Really, Troy? An x-rated challenge, in which a player could have been decapitated, and the ref initially not giving anything before being asked to review it on VAR, is “a good advert for English football”?
I think the Millwall fans chanting “Let him die” whilst an opposition player was lying unconscious was a somewhat regrettable advertisement for what English football could be like, as well.
For those of us on Bluesky…
Absolutely hideous challenge, and one that doesn’t get punished in the last round
I know “magic of the cup” etc but the FA Cup is pretty boring isn’t it?
It’s all over the German sports press. English football does not come out looking very good from this.
I wonder if it’s a bit why I can’t be arsed seeing all English ties in Europe.
Might be best if all Premier league clubs had to play away unless when facing one.
Man City game, potential handball and commentary said no VAR in this round of the FA Cup.
They used VAR earlier today in the Palace game.
WTF?
Yup this round onwards VAR they said….Can’t even have the excuse of it being a none PL ground.
I assume they will suddenly find VAR to check that.
1-0 Plymouth lol
City losing to Championship relegation candidates. You couldn’t make it up
Liverpool lost to the same relegation candidates.
And not playing their youth team
They’ve put out a much stronger team than we did.
And they’re at home.
I do like the green of Plymouth kits but it reached a pinnacle when it was sponsored by Ginsters.
Like the what even is “classic builders” sounds like it’s sarcasm.
Sense prevails if your giving a penalty for that you can give up.
Plymouth have that goal ruled out.
Shame
