Federico CHIESA: 2025/26

The pick out from Ali and the delicate touch from Szobo really made that, beautiful combination before the scramble in the box that followed.

& dare I say but Chiesa looks to have gained an extra half a yard of pace to last season, it’s over for the league.

He was never slow last season. I think Slot needed to trust him a lot more.

I don’t think he’s slow in terms of pace - I think it’s the fact that he’s played almost his whole career in a league renowned for its slower brand of football that’s holding him back now. When he gets the ball, he just doesn’t release it quickly enough. You could say that Wirtz and Ekitike were also guilty of it yesterday, though, but Chiesa doesn’t seem to be improving in that regard just yet - and that’s my biggest worry when it comes to his Liverpool career.

We might see another side to Chiesa, a better one shall I say, when MO goes missing to the Africa Cup…
Never seen an LFC player that so wants to play for the fans like this guy does…

Salah has been guilty of the same too. Multiple times within matches over his entire Liverpool career.

I’m not equating Chiesa to Salah. But most footballers have been guilty of that.

Wirtz / Ektike will be guilty of that so will Chiesa, so will Isak , so will Messi. The issue is that whether they are given the chance to rectify their mistakes and get them right when it counts.

I think he probably realises that he’s privileged to be in a club like Liverpool. Especially after injuries derailed his career. That means a lot for him and he wants to make his mark.

Soboszlai, dodgy passer at the best of times.
Jones , his decision making is rather suspect

It’s not just the league anymore. Players are who they are.

Could also be because it takes an extra second or two when looking for the ā€˜killer’ pass, as opposed to the easier option…
I feel Chiesa lacks confidence in his play. Could be he doesn’t want to disappoint his backers in the crowd…
A few more events like scoring a late goal like last night, and soon his confidence in his ability will return…
A player brimming with confidence, is a different animal to those uncertain of their actions…
If we were looking for a goal or change of fortune in a CL final, with 20mins to go, Chiesa is a player that could do the business… He is here for a reason, we just don’t know fully, what that is yet… Chapters in this LFC story are being written each season… Who knows how thick the book will end up

I feel like Chiesa has been held to a different standard. Perhaps you are right in your observations (about him releasing it slowly)… but I look at impact and I also think that in the time that he has played he has almost often been one of our biggest goal scoring / creating threats.

I was looking through his game record with us (ChatGPT analysis).. and it is very impressive actually (in each game where he played with a couple exceptions).

Like Wirtz and Ekitike, that’s down to not having adjusted to the pace of the Premier League, something which comes with game time which he hasn’t had.

I have no doubt that he can be a valuable contributor if given a proper chance.

I have always been puzzled what is the problem with Slot not wanting to use him, this season he has had a full preseason and looked full of running in training.
I think the Divock Origi moment yesterday has clicked in Slots mind I keep fingers crossed he now stays even if it is just as a squad player.

He hasn’t had a full preseason. He missed the Asia tour because of injury

Yes you are right but I should have said he made all the preseason training and the lactate test but broke down before the Asia tour. He is a bit like Gomez excellent player but very dodgy hamstrings and groin. I used to pick up injuries in my thirties like that because at the back there are periods when you are static and then suddenly you are called to make a sharp sprint and snap like a piano wire. I would probably use him in the last 10 to 15 minutes of games and just liken Divock he might make the difference in winning us the CL.
