Federico CHIESA: 2025/26

In with both feet there without any knowledge of what’s happened behind the scenes or the managers rationale. There’s definitely a streak of this against Slot and it seems to mostly stem from perceptions around Quansah and Chiesa.

The man won the league his first go out and made it to another Cup Final. He’s now overseen a squad transition of note and got us off to a flyer in the league. Not sure what more people want and why they are expecting him to be a combination of Klopp and Gandhi.

If we were talking about shunning a prized youngster I would understand the complaints a bit more. You want to win, but you dont want to be so focused on winning now that you alienate your best young players who are positioned to help you sustain that year after year. But that isnt what we’re talking about with Chiesa. In this specific case we are talking about the exact opposite, making room for and showing faith in top young talent to protect the medium and long term future while trying to win now.

I say this as one of Chiesa’s bigger advocates on this forum.

If there was a pre decision making chat between AS and Chiesa, it would have been a one-way conversation, with Chiesa being told of the decision. It is unlikely to have been a dithering debate of shall I, or shall I not
Yes this could have been played out a dozen different ways, but the fact remains; from the outside and until we hear to the contrary; Chiesa is the one that has been omitted.
In whatever format, or side dish this news was served to him… as far as early stage of the CL is concerned, he is on the outside looking in..!
Hey no one is saying managing LFC is an easy task and everything should fall into place to keep everyone happy… but as we have just seen with Guehi and Isak, being a nice guy doesn’t always get you the best end result… Chiesa to me, appears a nice guy that seems easy going… maybe it was easier to tell someone like that, you are not included..!
Come January, I just hope we can look back and see everyone benefitted from the decision made by AS

This is my thought also.

Rio gets the experience of being part of the CL squad and gets minimial minutes here and there. Chiesa gets used more in the league, and continiues to work hard on his fitness etc, and come Jan when we can make some changes to the CL squad, Chiesa is included (if hes still around)

I’m pretty relaxed about this.

Just because you can’t figure out why doesn’t make it disrespectful.

Slot’s job is to win football games. He did that last season whilst Chiesa barely got a look in. There must be a reason behind that and whatever that reason is he’s been vindicated.

If Chiesa felt disrespected he’d have pushed to leave in the summer. The lack of evidence for that and the fact we seemed comfortable with him staying suggests things are fine and Chiesa knows his role in the squad.

And even if Slot does have something personal against him why would it matter. He’s offered very little and if he left tomorrow he’d be remembered more for his song than anything he did on the pitch.

And that’s his Liverpool career in a nutshell. Everyone who loves Liverpool wants Chiesa to do well - it’s just that he’s either not that good anymore, or not suited to the team and the league, or both. I’m really sorry for his omission but, taking UEFA rules into account, I don’t really see which other player should have been omitted instead of him on the form of past year or so.

maybe the truth is brutal.

maybe he rates Rio higher than Chiesa.

Probably picked one of the players that are (or were) nearest the exit doors. High probability that Ngumoha will be here more than Chiesa will. And with combination of the position(s) he plays, compared to other players.

Interesting…

Gattuso explains why Chiesa isn’t on the National Team:

“It’s not right to talk about this before a game but I know what Chiesa told me and what I told him.

I’ll say it again, we wanted to call him up, but I saw someone who wasn’t 100% sure and for me you need to be totally pumped up when you play games like this.

He made me understand and told me that he didn’t feel it because he needed to get back and improve certain things.”

Guess how many minutes he has played so far? 495 minutes. Not much, eh? During this time, he has contributed with five goals and two assists. In terms of goal/assist per minute ratio, that’s more than Jota last season, more than Ekitike last season at Eintracht, and more than Wirtz last season with Leverkusen. It’s a small sample of course, but hey, what can he do else but perform when called on the pitch?
Also without looking at the stats, he has mostly looked good when playing, despite coming back from a long and nasty injury. Maybe it would be good to give him a chance instead of dismissing him like you guys do there?

Of course he does, and it’s his right as the manager. He stands and falls with his decisions after all. I still find it weird though.

Anyway, nothing I’ll write here will change anything. As a lot of people have written, Chiesa will hopefully get the chance to prove his worth in the PL.

Does his response to his call up not give you any pause to reconsider how you are approaching this? Gatusso tried to reward him with a call up and he turned it down saying he was not ready.

This is the context in which Slot has been managing him. In the first half of last season he was very transparent about the situation - he was bought with a view of giving him the time he needed to get back into a position where physically he could perform and that was ok because we bought him for the long term not for what he would do on day 1. For most of the season he was going through an individualized training program where he was only with the first team intermittently. He is seemingly fully integrated now, but it seems there is likely still some risk management we’re all working through with him.

So despite his better goal contribution record we still elected to buy Ekitike and Wirtz, both of who get picked ahead of him. It’s almost as if a goal against Accrington in the FA Cup or an assist in a CL dead rubber against PSV aren’t really something that makes much of a difference.

I like the bloke, seems a decent enough lad and clearly enjoys playing when he does. But there’s a reason the manager doesn’t pick him to start very often and that’s fine. He’s a squad player type, bit like a Shaqiri. He’ll pick up minutes here and there and pop up with the odd goal or assist but there’s not really a justification for him to get more minutes. He rarely impress enough when he does play to make a case for more starts and the manager sees him in training everyday and doesn’t see reason either.

Don’t see how that’s disrespectful. To be honest it sounds like you’re judging the player he was before the injuries rather than the one he is now.

Federico needs to stop fucking Arne’s wife. And she’s not even in Liverpool. There, I said it.

I’ve got no proof of this but it’s the ONLY rational explanation.

That still going on? Thought it was only the one time.

Unless AS told the board he didn’t want any new signings when he first come into the job… and it was someone else went against this, and it was not AS that signed him to the club…!

I think the bigger problem is he’s moved onto Arne’s daughter and now the wife is jealous.

Just read this from EotK but did not check for accuracy…but reading it carefully, it’s about someone else getting long term injured/illness so that Fede can be called upon.

Edit: Misleading headline…just like most “articles” these days. I will leave it without deleting the link.

I would give my opinion, but 4 separate times pop up ads filled my entire screen leaving not a single word of the article visible. So all I will I say is “good for him. Or that sucks.”
