With you Walshy and I’d add I’m proud to say I didn’t even read/click on any articles/links about it (except posting on here when it was all over).
I watched PSG whack Real Madrid, which was enjoyable. Then I watched the final, and I was surprised that Chelsea won it so comfortably. It looked like a half paced PSG to me, who suddenly hit the wall after a long season.
Chelsea had no right to be there as their qualification was based on something they did years ago. That’s a sham. And to ramp it up and make it a world affair was also a sham, in a competitive sense, with lots of teams in this tourney easily bettered by the lower half of the Prem teams.
I enjoyed the needle after the Chelsea v PSG final. Quite a lot of snide on show, and it’s always entertaining to see that spill over. I turned off as I couldn’t stomach them lifting the trophy, or being called world champions, as it is meaningless. I laughed at seeing the pictures later, when Trump inserted himself into the trophy lift.
The pitches were too dry and the grass was not right either. The heat and humidity for lots of the games was way too much too. America has lots of indoor, air-conditioned stadiums and that should inform the World Cup, but it probably won’t.
This tourney was at the end of a long, hard season, so the best that the players could bring was not on display. They will all enjoy the ridiculous money they received, but I suspect the teams won’t know the real price they paid for this until they run out of energy and have a slump in the upcoming season that will be on us in a few short weeks.
Chelsea should be Prem title challengers, but I suspect they will be inconsistent, though they still should finish top four, given the large quantity of talent they have.
I was not a fan of the CWC though I did see a couple of games at the sharp end. If and when we are invited to play in the expanded version, I would love to see us give a principled ‘no thank you’ in the name of player welfare. Sadly, I think a precedent has now been set and money talks
The next one will be in Saudi and so almost certainly held in January, which isnt issue free, but less of an issue than a summer tournament that couldnt decide if it was part of the season that just ended or a kick off for the new season.
Problem I have with this Chelsea narrative on title challenges is this is the same team bar delap that were so far off challenging they also will have zero prep.
I don’t see it.
Yeah, this stinks to high heaven. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some cheating involved.
To be fair, everything FIFA are involved with these days stinks a lot.
Same for me. I didn’t miss it at all, as I have zero interest in this.
FIFA opened an office in Trump Tower about a week ago. Does not pass the sniff test. Trump is a known grifter, among many other things. FIFA has a river of money flowing through it. The Saudis, and other wealthy middle eastern states, are increasingly involved in the game. It’s not difficult to imagine a high level of corruption.
If we had played this tournament you could have kissed the PL goodbye there and then.
They were definitely improving latter part of the season, and they also picked up Pedro to help solve some of their scoring issues. I think they will be top 4 next season but not top 2.
Somewhat off-topic, but I do wish Fifpro grew a spine and told Infantino to go fuck himself along with his Saudi and Trumpian friends. Boycott the fucking thing and see the prick squirm and backtrack.
What will take? Players dropping like flies? We can’t be far away from there.
They were picking up prior to slumping around December.
I’m sorry I don’t really buy it especially now they have to play in a proper European competition.
They should have been better last season than they showed.
I hope that will be the case. First, in order to hand FIFA a lesson, and second, because then we’ll have a free run for the title.
I’m another one who hasn’t watched a single second of this competition , but I am curious to know how Chelsea managed to beat PSG 3-0. Anyone ?
I did wonder…the dark arts!!!
I did watch a bit before Berlin but once I got back I couldn’t be arsed and the women’s euros and Baseball filled the gap.
As did Wimbledon.
They were just a lot better on the day, along with PSG underperforming. Chelsea humiliated them down the right.
My take is PSG hit the wall, physically. They battered Real Madrid and were full of energy. Then Chelsea did that to them. PSG were way below peak.
The other aspect is Chelsea are a very good side, if inconsistent. They should be, given the money they have spent. They should be title challengers but I suspect they will have a slump and will scramble to finish top four. Again.

Great move, I wish it would be that easy to photoshop him out of the White House.
Wonder if Trump will want to invade London now?
