FIFA Club World Cup

LA’s friendly against Wrexham drew a bigger crowd than their match versus Chelsea

Part of the purpose of this tournament is a trial run at World Cup venues, so playing at MLS stadia would not have met that objective. Not that the pitch will be any better at the Meadowlands a year from now, but it allows some handwringing

After last night’s fiasco this game between Fluminense and Dortmund is a lot better. Both teams playing football for a change and the ref must think it is breeze.

Completely disagree with this article. Even if a team wins it, it’s around £100M (rounding up). That’s £25M per year (as it’s a quadrennial tournament). In the larger scheme of things that is nothing. You are far better off winning the PL and the CL.
And player fatigue and injuries due to this farce of a tournament will cost the team far more both in results and earnings. It is fools’ gold.

Trent essentially gives away a penalty for being out of position.

thats not really a fair way of looking at it…

by just qualifying for it , it means sustained quality and finishes…then, once every four years you get a a month to win the equivalant to a whole CL trophy (is it?)

the money is staggeringly good and its a farce that FIFA can bank roll that…imagine that going into grass roots stadia stadia or grass roots football

its sickening, a terrible competition run by a narcissistic demon (selfies with Peles coffin anyone!) , but pretending its not tempting or even crucial, is a bit head in the sand…FSG would be looking at that and thinking hard…

Yeah you got last season for winning the title about 62m and then you have tv money.

We got 53m for third and tv money. Time it takes to win yeah it’s bumper but it’s not every season and you can’t do well in just this every 4 years though for some of the teams who qualified it suggests not doing much else.

8 second rule imposed on Al GK. Corner to Real.

To repeat myself…I like it.

Not for once every four years it isn’t.

The scheduling of these games has been absurd as well. Playing in the middle of the day during the summer in Miami is just a shit experience for everyone. Has this been done to get evening kick off for a European market? One that is going to be largely ignoring the tournament anyway?

Also the ref cam is a shit gimmick.

Yeah I’m not sure what that even brings to this…

Lavia saying he thinks the walk ons are good probably tells you more about him and his attitude than you’d consider.

They’ve been awful, noted offsides were quicker, that’s been a positive.

Don’t like the Brazilians rolling around at any challenge while not minding leaving their foot in. But always good to see Chelsea get twatted.

Been a feisty match from the beginning. And now Jackson, who has just come in with a clearly hot head, absolutely goes over the top on a Flamengo player. Stonewall red card.

Chelsea were leading 1-0. Now 1-2 down with 10 men.

Really don’t get why the Chelsea players were moaning about that tackle.

Really no reason.

The match is on in the bar at the hotel I’m staying at in Bremen. Pretty much no interest in it at all. One guy doom-scrolling and another table playing Uno.

Chelsea getting humped

Basically Chelsea, to a man, got hotheaded and just started wanting to fight.

Flamengo had shape and a game plan. Chelsea were just reacting to everything.

Why is the DAZN studio couch looks like it’s on a precariously balanced island supported by flimsy frames above a pit?

Obi Mikel absolutely slaughtering Sanchez!

Only someone delusional would say Chelsea were one of the favourites. They were made to look like disjointed group on individual playing well below their individual natural abilities.
