FIFA World Cup 2022: Qualification Stage

Where do they play in January, Vancouver?

I would expect it would be in Vancouver, yes. Edmonton has been a preferred venue, because in the larger cities the local ethnic communities come out in force, and home games sometimes donā€™t feel that way (especially Mexico). In Edmonton, it is far enough away from other areas to make travel somewhat prohibitive, large enough to fill a 50k stadium, but not so large as to fill it with fans of visiting countries. However, Edmonton in January could easily see -35 C.

I assume itā€™s why they wouldnā€™t usually play these games at that time :upside_down_face:

I was actually in Calgary for work and debated making the 3 hr drive for either of Canadaā€™s games. Decided getting back at night would be a little too hard for an old fart.

Oh my, Italy OR Portugal it is, both isnā€™t possible :astonished:

Ronaldo tears are coming

Sad Cristiano Ronaldo GIF by UEFA

Iā€™d say itā€™s a decent chance for Scotland to surprise again, looking at their recent trend; performances, results, cohesion, atmosphere, etc.

That B draw is hard to predict. Maybe Sweden or Poland.

Italy are the obvious favourites in C, but who knows if things get complicated. Anyway, it seems to me since Euroā€™s that Portugal have lost their balance and they never really found a way how to incorporate Fernandes between their midfield and attack. His national team performances are a shadow of his club performances.

This method of qualification for all the runners up is brilliant.

Finally we have some real qualifying action instead of a series of mismatches.

There is nothing like knock out football between evenly matched sides. Iā€™m even thinking of congratulating FIFA.

You couldnā€™t have scripted Portugal v Italy any better. I cruelly only thought of one player straight away and started laughing. On the other hand wouldnā€™t mind seeing Jota get a gig at the Cup.

On the other handā€¦

I understand the WC hosts are automatically at the tournament, but do they have to be in pot 1?

Thatā€™s another victim of these bastards. At least he had the courage to stand up to them. But three years of jail is a tough price to pay.

And of course, FIFA remain silent, the c*ntsā€¦

Brazil has already qualified, why trouble the players for meaningless games during a pandemic?

Itā€™s not a winter break Itā€™s an international break and in a way theyā€™d probably force us to play Leeds otherwise. Iā€™m not too bothered with that as Firmino is hopefully available and fresh for when we play in Feb especially that first week where our AFCON players are finishing up their tournament.

The next WC is an absolute stain on international football from which it will never fully recover.
