FIFA World Cup 2022: Qualification Stage

I think when players get hit by batteries thrown from the stands, it is clearly unsafe, and Honduras has been fine with that for at least 30 years. So they can learn how to play wearing long underwear.

No one will be developing hypothermia in those temperatures if they are moving, in any case.

Missiles and shit being thrown from the stands is a safety issue and should be getting reported to the match officials and CONCOCAF - that is for them to deal with.

As for the actual game. USSFA screwed up and need to hold their hands up and accept they fucked up. And it is in US media that players were showing symptons at Halftime https://www.thedenverchannel.com/sports/2-honduran-soccer-players-treated-for-hypothermia-after-us-hosts-key-game-in-frigid-minnesota#:~:text=Soccer%20writer%20Grant%20Wahl%20and,Field%20in%20Saint%20Paul%2C%20Minnesota.

It would appear you are not very familiar with CONCACAF as an organization. They exist to embezzle money, not deal with on or off pitch issues.

Aren’t Chuck Blazer and CONCACAF seperate identities?

That’s just poor coaching - tellingly, one of them was the keeper. They need to keep moving. But let’s say they had mild hypothermia, and put 2 on the board for cold. Heat stroke has happened repeatedly.

As for reporting, it is not exactly a secret. It has been reported, again and again and again. Same every time.

I look forward to seeing Honduras in Edmonton some time. Then they’ll really be able to tell the difference between hypothermia stages if they don’t keep moving

True - but I’d be very surprised if Chuck Blazer was the only corrupt CONCACAF executive. Not many signs that much has changed there.

For the record - I agree US soccers decision to hold the game in Minnesota was beyond ridiculous.

I just don’t have a ton of sympathy for Hondurous or any of the CONCACAF region opponents complaints on that front as they have been equally ridiculous in trying to create greater home advantage and making any away game a terrible experience for our players in ways that go well beyond sporting gamesmanship

Thing is this is kind of unique as they wouldn’t play at this time usually.

So proud of Poland :poland:

Why haven’t FIFA banned Russia from the World Cup yet?

Why haven’t the remaining Russian teams been evicted from the Europa League and Conference League (Spartak Moscow and Zenit, I think)?

Are we really saying we expect teams to travel to Russia to play games of football?

Ban them, permanently.

Spartak are the only side left in UEFA competition and have already been told their home game will be held in a neutral venue. It’s a start.

It feels a lot fairer, at this point at least, to ban Russia from the world cup than Spartak from the Europa, for reasons I am not completely able to articulate.

So that’s all their possible play-off opponents refusing to play them. FIFA can’t keep sitting on their hands.

So, Russia with a bye into the world cup it is then.

Unfortunately, that’s a very real possibility. You can very well expect something along the line we stopped the escalation and saved thousands of lives.

3-0 for Poland or just promote a new side that had the most points (then goal difference or whatever if you need it), instead of Russia.

Isn’t this in UEFA’s hands to decide upon? I thought the regional associations decided on the qualifying competitions, within the FIFA framework.

FIFA have currently not suspended Russia, but have given a warning as they have stated Russia cannot play any FIFA matches in Russia, Russia cannot call itself Russia in international games, and when they play there will be no Russian flags or national anthem.
