I absolutely hate this whole charade, but are Iran playing the US?
I think all the groups look fairly even to me. No stand out group of death.
You’re going to escalate issues in the east thus keeping Ukraine out and then you lose to Wales, making it an England-Wales 1-2?
So if Australia manage to get past UAE we then play off against Peru, then go into a group with France and Denmark.
Our 2018 group in Russia was France, Denmark and Peru. Wonder what the odds for that would have been?
He is really bad and yet someone seems to be obsessed with pushing him.
Officially, I’m boycotting this World Cup, but unofficially, that Group B will be so much fun if we get there.
Group C could be interesting. The rest looks predictable.
Frankly I would have been much happier watching a Qatar-free World Cup of teams who decided to boycott it. But that boat has long sailed, and shows that as always, money is king.
Hopefully it is such a stinker of a tournament that something changes at FIFA.
I was about to make a comment about no one remembering the controversy over the award of the xxxx world cup, as evidence that these things never stick, but I dont even recall the details myself. I think it was definitely to do with one of the CONCAF delegates getting bought off and giving their votes to a different host than he was sent there to do, but I dont recall which world cup it was (maybe 2006 going to Germany instead of SA?) and the fact I cannot remember it illustrates my point.
Sure but this is magnitudes of order different - its not simply a case of the weaker candidate got the finals. Qatar is unsuitable to host a WC on every conceivable ground, has forced the entire footballing calendar to be moved for multiple seasons to accomodate it and has permanently stained any FIFA claims about doing good through football.
Think it was Germany, yeah, but with the AFC?
That’s right. I had in my head it was the guy from Trinidad and Tobago, but it was the Aussie (actually Scott) who after England were eliminated (who he and his confederation were backing) refrained from switching his vote to SA in the next round. That was the one vote they needed to win and without it the voting went on and eventually Germany won.
2014 Qatar admits to violations in worker safety and human rights and vows to do better
2022 Amnesty international releases report on continued human rights and safety issues and Qatar acknowledges they are unacceptable and vows to do better.
I’m kind of surprised that Barney Ronay article above made it clear they don’t care, surprised they didn’t shrug and say “so?”
Oooffff
Slave labor is better for the slave than charity. That’s the line we’re now using to defend this world cup.
Morally corrupt. But no worries, I’m sure Qatar is paying him well.
Havelange and Blatter were already corrupt enough, but still harmless choirboys when compared to this scum.
