I support that interpretation, to be clear. But again, I’ve seen it called the other way often and I expected Kane to get that call here.
Winning requires sacrifice. Even generational sacrifice. ![]()
As Arminius says, Kane has been getting those his entire career so I expected it to be given as well. I am pleasantly surprised that the ref saw this one for what it was though. From a pursit not caring about england PoV at least
D.R Congo are playing well and their GK has been brilliant.
England had their chances and are not clinical enough. They played better in the last 30 minutes.
As a neutral (with slight DRC leanings), I find it humorous how all of England’s surrogates in the media were basically looking past this match as a given.
Lots of chances piling up for England there, which could point to a decent second half and advancement. But there is work to do, and Congo could have had a second themselves.
England need to play with more tempo. If they waste the next twenty minutes with more ponderous stuff, in front of Congo and easy to defend, they will deserve it if they go out.
But let it not be said that this is a bad football game, no matter what the result will be. This is a very good game to watch. Both teams are playing very well. England probably needs to be sharper. Dr Congo is playing very well at times, but look very shaky on transitions when they lose the ball.
Our commentary says England have not won a world cup in which they went behind since the final in 66 ![]()
England expected to win this…they looked and thought they could beat DR Congo hands down..lackadaisical, over confident, pull your socks up, cause your bus tickets are being printed…fight for the ball, run with the ball and play faster…
No need to dive there Harold
a bit rich and a bit late for the english pundits to be talking about respecting congo now
Well, this is going well.
Didn’t even know it had started.
Uncomfortable thing for England is their most cultured midfielder, the player most capable of getting on the ball and using it intelligently from the middle of the pitch is currently playing (poorly) at LB. Maybe they move Spence over bring Quansah on and put O Reily as a midfield conductor
How in the world is that not a PK?
Quansah is injured, that’s why there is a bond villain playing at right back
I know he missed a couple of days of training but they said in our commentary that he is available. Hell, Konsa has played RB plenty so they can shift him over and bring on another CB if they wanted to make the O Reily move
Caveat - our commentary is full of morons so it is entirely possible he is not actually available.
We’ve had 3 different people on our commentary arguing that the VAR should have least sent the ref for another look, despite it now being nearly 10 years old and it has ALWAYS explicitly not been allowed to do that
Pickford reminds me of someone with my stereotypical view of someone with really bad ADHD
All I see at half time is adverts not even bad commentary.
Do you at least get the “welcome to my house” banger from Casamigos?
