The thing is, getting to the quorter finals is good for anyone. Anyone not France and Spain. Getting to the semis are good for anyone, but maybe a slight disappointment if you are France or Spain. For England, getting to the quorter finals would be good, semis then England punch above their weight. Finals is far less likely than Norway beating Brazil.
So if England win this, and then the next game, there is 0 reason for any of the usual crisis headlines and pundits talking about how England blew it. England is not, on paper, among the 4 best teams in the world.

In my football nerdery one of my favorite things to get excited over are positive touches that don’t control the ball the way you’re taught as a kid, but ones that get it out of your feet and moves it away from the defender setting you up shoot. Linekar’s knee control taking it past Buchwald in 90 is peak. That second touch by Harry on that goal was better
